Game launchers and progression lost
Hi, I experience problems with games such as Jedi Fallen Order that require to log in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ launcher, Origin for Electronic Arts. This make the game inaccessible whithout internet connexion, and this is a problem with a mobile device such as the Steam deck. But now I lose my progression in game because the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ launcher ask me again my credentials like a first launch, and then the game has lost all my settings and saved progression.
Please, Valve, react and stop those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ launchers that make games unplayables on mobile devices. Games run very well on steam deck, I am in rage that some games are not playable because of political reason from editors, and online features that the player doesn't want. We pay games, we want them playables on our devices.

Are you using heroic launcher? There's a bug in legendary that seems to change the assumed location of the saves, so your cloud save might download fine, but the game won't actually see it. I ended up just adding the epic games launcher itself as a non-steam game, then using it to install my games, then saves and things worked properly. As far as the online bit goes that's ♥♥♥♥♥♥ developers and publishers forcing always on DRM on us. Don't feel bad getting the seven seas version of a game you've bought to do away with that crap so you can play offline for real.

Why the steam cloud is not functionnal for games that require a launcher ? Saved games files are localisable, a copy of them is simple to implement. It is so frustrating to have to restart a game from the beginning, imagine that each time you open a book ! This statement is not acceptable, and editors policy must change to adapt to the new age of gaming, allowing an offline and nomad experience for gamers. Online features must be an option, not mandatory, and games, once installed, must be accessible without internet ! Free the gaming experience !

i think what op wants is that valve bans additional launchers, since steam already can work as drm gate. i dont think that is possible, but i agree they are annoying, and sometimes create problems that didnt existed before them, and the games that force them never offer something actually useful to players. they just exist as another tool to try to mine more data that they can sell later.

The Steam Deck is a very good machine and its SteamOS / Proton concept is excellent, but its usage brings up problems that did not arise before: PC games that require an internet connection are not suitable for play in nomadic mode (in addition that it is not possible to disable the wifi to gain more autonomy). It is the player who finds himself frustrated, the games would work perfectly without these problems of game launchers or network functionalities which he does not need to play solo, but which deprives him of playing his games (or that causes the lost of game progression). For example I manage to play Gears 5 on the S.D. despite it is indicated as incompatible because of its anti-cheat system (thanks to a video found on the internet). However the game runs very well, but only when it agrees to start, because unfortunately when you start or load a game, even solo, there is a process of a room creation which sometimes does not succeed. Why force the creation of a room when you want to play a game solo and offline? It would take an effort from publishers to consider the nomadic gaming and to allow to play their games offline on mobile devices like the Steam Deck. And maybe Valve, whose interest is to improve the compatibility of games as much as possible, could define an agreement with the publishers of the games concerned.
