Steam Deck
Windows 11 Latest APU Driver leads to black screen.
I'ved tried 20 installs so far.
Each time I updated windows 11, factory reset, even use display driver uninstaller short of a reformat nothing works. It always leads to a black screen on boot followed by a reboot which leads to windows detecting a boot issue and then I go into safe mode uninstall the driver.

The original APU drivers install just fine every time. IDK what is up with the recent APU drivers provided by Steam/AMD. IDK what else I can do to get it to install so I can get Audio Drivers.

The entire steam library was designed for windows. You should have more access to games by installing windows 10

if you cared to research how things actually work, you woulnd think that.

short version:
valve doesnt want to promote windows in the deck, and doesnt need to.

long version:
devs usually make games only thinking in windows because thats what they can afford: making the same game work in different platforms and os means more time in development. also people that code for linux are more scarce than those that code for windows, because microsoft has a big influence in education (and many other fields obviously), and also usually most people start using a computer that has windows preinstalled including wannabe coders.

thats one thing, the other:
most if not all games made by Valve are and were made also for linux, and steam was also made thinking to work in steam os for the "steam machines" plan, which was rushed and failed. valve since day one wanted to be free from the influence and control of microsoft, which is why they have supported linux development.

the steam deck is like "steam machines v2", and its been a long time many devs and people have worked to improved compat with windows software in linux, because unlike windows and apple os, linux os isnt locked behind copyright and other traps that are meant to take away control from the users, and make them dependent of the whims of microsoft.

complementary stuff:
smart people dont want to pay rent to have access to programs, or become "locked in a cloud": smart people want to be able to own the copies of their programs, and have the option to modify and control them however they like and need. supporting windows is also supporting that "anti-consumer" (more "anti-human" imo) approach.

It might help your point by not ending it with some insane conspiracy stuff.
Fixed my warzone stutter by going into bios and allocating 4gb to vram.

I don't have a deck yet but I think you can get access to more GPU settings in windows (fps limiter etc) by installing the AMD Radeon Software from the Windows Store[www.microsoft.com]

I don't know who to blame? Valve or AMD. Windows 11 + Latest APU drivers => Black screen.
They should have tested them. I have lost my windows installation and I had to reinstall everything from the beginning!

blame yourself, since windows has ways to fix driver issues thru things like safe mode

I had the same nasty windows reboot crash with the driver installation. What fixed it for me and many others, after all hope was almost lost from 2 hours of troubleshooting, was running the installation connected to a second screen.

for the unexpected reward from this headache (new apu driver), I was able to finally change the desktop res to 4k/8k

I found a type-c to hdmi adapter. What should I do now? Even if i start windows with the second screen connected both displays become black. I tried uninstalling the driver, then windows boots correctly, but when i try re-installing the driver.. again black screens :(
I was able to get this to install by checking the "Factory Reset" button in the APU driver installer (under advanced options). I did have a USB-C dock plugged in at the time but I'm not sure if that made any difference.

My Win11 Pro install was created with the official W11 Media Creation Tool as is, no rufus. The version I used even had the Steam Deck's WIFI drivers built-in. I didn't get this blackscreen problem with the latest apu driver dated 16th June.

I was having trouble RE-installing the latest APU driver. I thought maybe I was missing something by having run the installer through Device Manager as opposed to double-clicking on the installer itself, so I just double-clicked the installer to make sure I wasn't missing some sort of AMD graphics settings app or something.

The install didn't go well, as the screen went to black and some weird sound was playing. I held the power button down to turn the device off then turned it back on, and it seemed fine, though I'm not sure whether the install actually occurred. As such, I double-clicked the installer for the APU driver again and used the Factory Reset option this time, and it went fine.
