Steam Deck

Steam Deck

any recommendations for a good external battery?
Like if I'm on a long plane without an outlet. Can I just buy one of those small mobile phone battery bricks and plug it in, or it needs to be of certain specs for this thing you think?

You'll want one that can output 40 watts at least, otherwise the Deck will still drain the battery while you're playing. Other than that just buy a reputable brand from a reputable source at a capacity that works for you. Beware of deals that are too good to be true.

I am using a "Baseus Power Bank, Cargador Portátil USB C de 65W 20000mAh" from Amazon that I had for my Thinkpad. It did not do much for the hungry Thinkpad but I am very happy with it with the Steam Deck. It charges it 1.5x while playing and it charges up fast from the Steam Deck's charger. It also kind of fits the cavity in the back of the steam deck's case

This one is pretty good. But it's not cheap and it's fairly large. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YP823NA/?coliid=I2VY1DBZ7XU4WS

Here is a short review for it.

He talks about it by using it to run a workstation laptop under load that pulls around 150 watts. so it will definitely power a steam deck and all other peripherals you may want.

And he was able to take it on a plane, but it seems to be an 'at your own risk' type of thing due to it's size.

Cool thanks for the recs. I'm going to check those out. Yeah I tried a smaller one I had and it still drains while charging. I think ill aim for 65 watt one.

There's a higher version out of the charger but the 65W charger will charge the bank in about 1.5hr from empty, iv'e never ran it down that low so is an estimate.
Allowed on airlines as well.

you basically need an powerbank that complies with Power delivery 3.0 and has at least a 45W output. for the deck to charge at the highest speed it needs 20v 2.25 amps if the powerbank can't deliver that you will get a message "slow charger connected"

ETA Prime has a review of a few batteries. Most are from Amazon.
