Newest Update Removed Decky from game mode, can't get into desktop mode to uninstall/update PLS HELP

The newest steamOS update has blocked decky loader from the side menu (not that it ever DID the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ updates in game mode when i asked it to anyways but that's another story entirely), AND I have a sneaking suspicion that I may have installed Decky Recorder which I've seen has caused this issue for some people : I cannot get into desktop mode to uninstall either decky recorder OR the loader as a whole, because decky recorder has caused the damn black screen of unresponsiveness issue

What the effing eff do I do now?! I have DONE the "restart steam" fix, it's done Nothing for either making loader reappear OR getting ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ desktop mode to work. I've rebooted the entire deck. I've switched update channels from stable, to beta, AND then back to stable again

Do I seriously have to factory ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ wipe this thing and spend DAYS Reinstalling all of my games??? Please ANYBODY tell me there's another way to do this from gamemode because I'm about to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cry. I've had zero issues with my deck until now and this has me beaten into a fine pulp. Also thought decky loader was great until this but I won't be touching it with a 100 foot pole after this, ♥♥♥♥ that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ program.

this is why i gave up on decky loader, apart from some steamos update stopped it working completely and even reinstalling it in desktop mode didnt help. i drew the line at wiping and reinstalling the os just to make loader work again.

A plugin system for game mode is a great idea, but decky is using a backdoor hack to inject external code into the UI and it breaks all the time when the OS updates and valve change something, and not to mention the instances where its possible for plugins to actually brick your deck occasionally. and decky project doesnt seem to have the manpower or time to keep ontop of all the breaks.

I wouldnt try it again until valve actually provides a stable and safe plugin api things like decky could use instead, but until then ill make do.

Yep, this exactly >__> it took me 30 mins but I finally got the deck into desktop mode and I'm nuking the ♥♥♥♥ out of that decky loader, the concept seemed nice at the time but it is so not worth the aggravation. I'm lucky that it's taken this long for me to have experienced the Issues that seem to be a big issue with dL and each steamOS update but my god this is AWFUL, 0/10, don't recommend. The pretty UI and other stuff it did are not that major of a feature that I can't live without it if it means my system does what it's supposed to after a software update lol

Or not. Can't uninstall the little bastard either. Actually fuming. There's no download for the decky loader installer so all the people saying "just run the installer again and select uninstall dummy" are full of crap lmao

Konsole says the url has no security cert so it won't pull from the curl command. Soooooo ig I'm spending the rest of my weekend factory resetting and reinstalling my whole ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ deck. Thank you, decky loader. Thank you ssoooo much /s

It depends on how you initially installed it. If you used the Curl command, there is no download file. If you used the installer found here: https://decky.xyz/

It will stay in your Downloads directory. You can just download that, and run it to uninstall.

It's not that often when a Steam Client update stops Decky from loading, but I've always just re-ran the install and everything is good to go within 3-5 minutes.

I did it with the Curl command the first time because the stupid installer would never download on my deck lol but when I tried to run the Curl to UNinstall it too it said something about an unsecure connection and lack of a security cert so it wouldn't pull from the command. Had to factory reset my damn deck just to get rid of the little bastard lmfao and nothing you can say is gonna make me change my mind and reinstall it, sorry.

You aren't hurting me not using it. However, if you couldn't download the installer initially, something was already messed up.

Yeah, I've figured that much, heck if I know WHAT was messed up tho and until I do I'm not confident trying to reinstall the loader...it doesn't provide that much functionality/benefit to me (I prefer using my deck in game mode anyways and it never ever updated in game mode even tho it's apparently supposed to? *shrug* so something was DEF borked with the install and it was probably something I did wrong on my end but I can't put my finger on what so I'm just gonna avoid messing with it for now til I know for sure lol)

I just got a steam deck and when Decky didn't show up in discover I searched it in my browser. Found a Game Rant article that's been updated to provide a step-by-step workaround for reactivating it that starts with entering developer mode. I'll provide the link here in case it's helpful for anyone.

Fortunately, I decided to research why it's been disabled before trying anything. That's how I found this thread. Seems like it's best I leave it alone. But I hope the GR article is helpful some of your problems.
