If you want something like teamviewer but actually good and only use it on LAN NoMachine is my favorite

Steam link can do that, I have minimised a game and controlled my PC. However that isn't what it's designed to do.

Most RDP aren't designed around the FPS to stream games though.

In theory windows comes with RDP, and linux itself can do RDP, but I caution against that for security reasons.

I've been using AnyDesk from the Discover Store. There was an update recently that broke it but here are instructions on reverting to a working version if it still hasn't been fixed (I haven't updated again yet) https://reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/vxh7cv/_/ifx9x1v/?context=1

What I really like about AnyDesk is it has a no-configuration file transfer service built into it, made transferring ROMs and mods a lot easier.

I don’t intend to play games, its just to mess around on desktop mode mess around in the terminal

Using the virtual keyboard is annoying and didn’t have function keys

The canonical way to remotely administrate Linux machines would be SSH.
Aside from that, you can use any RAT available for Linux. My personal favorite when it comes to Linux GUI stuff is RDP (protocol) via XRDP (server) but that's just me.

Hi, I'm also interested on running linux apps on my android tablet for work on the go. Any advice on this? My user story: turn on steam deck, stream to tablet, turn off steam deck screen to save power and tuck it away in my bag => use android tablet for the rest of the time (larger screen but w/ the full power of linux)... any advice if this is workable on the steam deck?

Have you tried the solutions mentioned in this very thread?

Hello thanks for the reply. Currently trying to run a windows app using proton... (before I start streaming it to my tablet)... I "added" to game library (it's not a game but need 3d rendering so I thought I'd add it as a game), the exe installer "ran" ... now I dunno where the app is? The windows app is "radiant" (a dicome viewer for medical imaging).... can I find out where steam deck/proton installed my "windows" app? Or I should install wine instead? (hoping to at least remove the installed files wherever they are). after this I'll try streaming to my tab usiag steam link. Any advice?

Don't run installers, run the apps directly. Proton opens a new prefix (virtual file system) per binary and this doesn't exactly play well with installers (which are a separate binary from the actual payload).

Anyway, this stuff is in a folder called CompatData inside of StemaApps.

Hello thanks for the reply... I found that SteamApps>compdata>[random number]>pfx>drive_c but I checked program files & program files x86 and radiant is in neither....

I'm suppose to look for the exe file right? (but I don't know where the radiant installer put it... :-( )

Can I delete this steamapps>compdata folder? Is it some sort of wine folder for windows apps?

Btw, how do I "run directly"? I added the "installer.exe" as a "non-steam app"... (some things got downloaded... I dunno where to)... and it all just ended... now the clicking the installer gives an "error" I guess I'm suppose to find the true "exe" file after installation?

Update:

I got it installed using "bottles"... (now I'm jurt wandering where the "proton" install went? (so can delete it and save space?) I already tried the "steamapps" folder and that only har "windows" on it. Any advice? Thanks.

Hello, just to update... so I can stream my steam deck to my tablet now for a bigger screen. I'v installed "bottles" to run my windows apps. Mouse & keyboard work flawlessly. My only issue now is:
My tablet has a 1440p resolution but the steam deck is streaming at a lower 1280x800 (the steam deck's resolution) to my tablet.
I've already gone into the steam settings (desktop mode) and set to match client's resolution. I've also enable advanced host setting to allow the client to set the resolution. I've set my tablet's "steam client" app to 1440p... and yet when I stream my steam desktop mode,.. I'm still stuck at 1280x800 (the steam deck display's resolution). How do I set it to match my tablet's higher resolution? Any advice? I also want to eventually turn off my steam deck's screen, and just keep my tablet screen running. Thanks

Currently I found a sort of work around.I connect the steam deck to an external monitor via hdmi. I then disable my steam deck's 1280x800p monitor in the settings. Then I use the steam link app on my tablet. This works. The screen matches my 1080p monitor (still not 1440p but at least it's higher). The problem now is if I put my mouse curser on the left side of the screen, the image get's cropped and I only see 1/4 of the desktop. If I drag my mourse cursor to the right side of the screen, it goes full screen (w/c is what I want). is there a way to keep the screen size from "resizing" depending on where my mouse cursor is on the desktop?

My goal is to eventually tuck my steam deck away safely in my bag or "prop" it behind my tablet out of view (screen off) and then run steam desktop mode in full 1440p on my tablet's native resolution for "work" related activities. Any advice? Thanks.

I use Anydesk when I need more than good ol' SSH, works pretty well.
