Transfer from PC... How?
Hey folks.

I currently have no internet, and I want to install a new game onto my deck, that is currently instlaled on my pc.

When I try to install, it uses my phone data (its connected there) even though I'm plugged in on the dock, with an USB from PC to dock and an ethernet relay linking both devices.

I'm confused.

How is the "transfer from PC install" supposed to work? By USB? By ethernet but only if you have a wired connection to the internet going?

EDIT : the option to allow transfers are checked on both devices

You can transfer data files by copying them over local network - just create a shared folder and then open it in Dolphin by typing it in the address bar :

smb://my-pc-name/my-shared-folder-name

You need to copy the game from \steamapps\common AND the appmanifest_XXXX.acf file from \steamapps, where XXXX is the game ID (you can look it up).

The destination steamapps folder on your steam deck is here: /home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps

After that restart Steam and the game probably will appear. I haven't done this with steam deck, but i did it between windows PCs

Hi Herasteane.

I getya - as I only had access to the internet coz my buddy neighbor let me use his via wifi for months...

The transfer itself happens via your network - both machines need to be connected to the same LAN, meaning the same ip range (SUBNET). Deck, 192.168.2.23, pc, 192.168.2.12, for example, and it works.
Some community members state that some needed to check and set firewall rules according to traffic to be allowed - I did NOT, it just worked.
Another "group" stated that they needed to connect both, Deck and PC, for REMOTE PLAY in order to make network trensfer work. (If you might need to test this just follow the REMOTE PLAY section in the Steam client menu)

BUT despite that there are some "rules" to follow in order to make it work.

Your Deck needs be put to Steam Client Beta Channel!
(Even though it works on stable but beta is more reliable...)

The steam client (HOST) which is transferring the DATA to your Deck (CLIENT) needs to be inactive.
No playing games or running game or client updates on the HOST, no listening to music or watching videos in the Steam Client and stuff. (while you having no internet currently this given, but for general)
Your Deck needs to have the power cord to be plugged in !

### didnt manage to link it :( ###

Title: FIX (Steam Deck) "Game File Transfer over Local Network" start for a moment then stops.

FIX is:

- All settings is set-up for "Game File Transfer over Local Network"
- Steam Deck must be plug-in (charging)
- On Display settings
- "DIM DISPLAY" is "Disabled"
- "PUT DECK TO SLEEP" is "Disabled"

I had problem with transferring game from my Deck to PC. This help me fix that. I hope someone can find this helpful

What you might have already recognized when downloading games to your Deck, the DL is being split into two parts: game data and "shaders pre-caching".
game data can and will be tranferred from the HOST when using NETWORK TRANFER but the shaders WILL BE DOWNLOADED from the steam servers - each time after game updates as well.
Keep that in mind.
Usually the Deck loads the shaders first. When moving ahead to download game content it should retreive the data from the HOST - which can be easily monitored in the download section of your Deck. There will be a blue banner showing that the download is being retreived via network transfer. And it might be as well obvious when observing the DL data rates provided on the same page. For me (having real slow internet from time to time) downloading any game directly from the steam servers to my Deck gives me 3-5 MB/s; transferring the same game from the HOST gives 28+ MB/s - depending on overall Wifi usage.

Any questions you don't want to put into the community don't hesitate to ping me with a pm...

Cheers,
Ryback

Hey folks.

Tried everything, nothing works though... I'll wait for my internet to be back I suppose and download it through the wire.

I had false hope for a moment since my DL jumped to 24 mbps, but nope, it was the normal phone data...

Thank you for your time though, have a good one!
