Anyone using a Screen Protector on the etched glass anti-glare Steam Deck OLED?
I like the look of the matte anti-glare screen similar to my current Samsung OLED monitor, but wondering about screen protection and if I need a screen protector? Do you have a screen protector on your anti-glare Steam Deck OLED and if so which type are you using? Or do you just not use one and has it been fine with no issues?

You don't need a screen protector, not unless you insist on handing your Deck to kids or animals and I suppose, you're smart enough to cut your 10cm fingernails before using a touchscreen. The included carrying case does a bang job at protecting the screen before you toss your Deck into your bag of razors & knives.

I've been NOT using any screen protectors on my Switch (which I got several years before the Deck came into existence) as well as my Deck (which I got ASAP) as well as my Deck OLED (which I sold my old Deck for). No scratches. Of course, I diligently use the bespoke carrying case instead of just throwing the Deck into some corner of my backpack or shoulder bag, both for the Switch & Deck.

Of course, I don't have kids and I don't use my Deck to entertain friends' kids (if we ever meet with kids, like, at all). My point is, as long as you don't hand your Deck to humans with low motoric and/or cognitive abilities (so, kids) neither let your cat play on the touchscreen, you don't need a screen protector.

Valve made the screen easier to replace. The downside is the MURA rng.....

I have the OG 512 model with the etched glass. Pre-ordered on day 1 & put a no glare protector on it the first second it was out of the box almost 3 years ago. No regrets, no accidents, still looks great & it doesn't negatively impact how the screen looks.

To mirror off ReBoot's post, I treat my trash better than 99% of people treat their most prized possession. I'm an older Gen X, partially disabled person who's closest thing to a kid is my service dog. No family, I absolutely hate children & wouldn't let one get close enough to sneeze on my Deck. I 3D printed a stand/cradle for my desk that I use to play it, as it can be hard on my bad hand to hold it for long periods of time. If it leaves the house, it's in the case as well. My Switch hasn't really been played since I got the Deck, but it gets/got the same treatment. (Honestly my Switch is barely past the unlocked serial numbers & if I could just get BotW on my Deck, the Switch would be on Craigslist in a hot minute.)

Just because I'm a competent cook doesn't mean I don't have a fire extinguisher in the kitchen. I've had cell phones since the 90's, never broke a single screen in that entire time. I will still put a protector on every phone, every tablet & every portable gaming system I own. It doesn't hurt anything, they're inexpensive & when ♥♥♥♥ happens, you've got an extra layer of protection.
Same, but I'm still worried about the one random chance that happens. Also I usually just add a screen protector and forget about it most of the time. But in this case I'm just wondering about viewing the screen and if adding a protector is for better or worse in terms of image quality.

I have a day 1 (technically July, but purchased on day 1) 512 gig (the low glare), and I put a screen protector on it day 1.

I have 3 cats, a dog, a klutz of a wife, and a tendency to get distracted.

I haven't noticed any flaws or distortion from the screen protector, but I've never played much without it. And the screen protector has a couple small nicks in it, not sure if it would've damaged the screen (the protector is probably less durable than the screen itself), but I'll take it off someday and get to see it in brand new condition!

You asked what kind, it's d-brand, along with a faux-leather case which I'm a little meh on.

i have the 512gb lcd as well, i put a "normal" glas from amazon on it (without antiglare), and it destroys the antiglare effect from my lcd, if play outside on my sd on a sunny day, than i can use the display almost as mirror. i read thats its better to buy a normal displayversion sd and put a antiglareprotection on that, at night the protector is no problem
