Steam Deck compatability tool failed
every single steam game I try to launch won't launch, it just says compatibility tool failed for everything, I've tried updating, I've tried verifying, I've tried different versions of proton, I've tried verifying the steam runtime stuff, I've tried restarting and hard resetting the deck, I've tried in gaming mode and desktop mode, why won't this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing work.

what game you play?if you donwload direct from steam it will show playable or not, but if you download non steam you can check on ProtonDB

I've verified all the different versions of proton and the steam runtime, it doesn't matter which version of proton I try to use none of them make any difference

Without being able to troubleshoot things myself and knowing what you've already tried, can I can suggest reimaging your Steam Deck? This will be a total and complete reset back to it's factory state. I've noticed you were complaining about the same issue back in August, and before that your last post was about a year and a half prior, so there's really very little context here besides "something broke". A reimage will absolutely solve any possible software issue you may be experiencing, assuming it's a software issue. In terms of problem solving, it's the nuclear option. It will work though. I also suggest resetting any changes made in the BIOS, if any, back to factory. Things like undervolting and such.

Just to make sure, did you remove anything like Seam Linux Runtime 2.0 (soldier) or Steam Linux Runtime 3.0 (sniper)?

If not, check this post:

okay, after doing a factory reset and reinstalling a bunch of stuff, it's working again
the only thing I can think is that maybe I had too many games listed with emudeck's steam rom manager? Ive decided to use pegasus as a frontend for that from now on just in case, but thanks for the suggestion

Glad it worked out.
I noticed things started to get a little weird with Steam Rom Manager as my collection got larger. Today, I just keep a few emulated games on Steam with Steam Rom Manager, and I use Emulation Station to access the rest.
