what programs are you wanting to run under windows?
That isn't what I'd call "no drivers". It's not "all drviers" but it isn't "no drivers". You can also find a 3rd party compatible driver for the WiFi/BT chipset as well (from a lenovo that uses the same chipset); so the only real issue is the audio drivers.
DST cant be played with mouse and keyboard sadly, so windows would work (steam deck version has no support)
Every game that has any kind of anticheats usually wont work either, i have a deck with dual boot but cant use it
If the driver is available why does lenovo get them and not Valve? are they lazier? i am fine with it not being priority number one, but almost one year is unreasonable waiting time for something that should be supported out of the box, steam deck has them, it sucks that the "better" version of the deck does not have them... and yah sound is a huge part of playing games, in short instead of defending steam for being lazy we should ask for the stuff they promised instead.... their website still promotes the deck as a windows able machine when it is not.
It's only the speakers that doesn't work. If you use wired earplugs or attach anything into the mini jack output, you have audio.
That wasn't my point in my previous post but it is worth also pointing out; thanks
As it stand right now valve officially ONLY support:
APU driver
SD Card reader driver
So yah that's no support for windows which is advertised by them.
"We are providing these resources as is and are unfortunately unable to offer 'Windows on Deck' support. If you get stuck and need a way back to the default Steam Deck OS, please follow these recovery instructions."
and the official Steam Deck page not even mentions the ability to use Windows.
you call it "laziness" but SteamOS and Linux in general is in a bit of transition and rapid development these past years with SteamOS having 3 different Kernels for every development branch (Stable, Beta, Main) and they still have a lot of work to do, especially on the Desktop side that is still running X11 and I doubt Valve wants it as it currently is, I am suspecting they are working on something to make it more friendly for Windows users before they release it as a Standalone Distro. but who knows when, ever heard of Valve time?
its fine for it to not be a extremely high priority but it seems to not be even on the back of their minds...
I understand the drivers are provided "as is" and that is fine, but they are NOT providing the drivers for the better and most expensive version of the deck, that right there is awful.
As soon as they started promoting the steam deck they spoke a lot about it being windows compatible, and to their credit regular steam deck is windows compatible, is the OLED that has trouble and seem to be absolutely forgotten, i understand that wanting windows in the deck is not super important for everyone BUT they did advertise it a lot and i love my deck but being unable to play a bunch of games just because they cant bother to get the drivers which to be honest they most likely dont even need to develop in house makes me a bit angry, they said the deck was windows compatible several times in interviews, the reality is that rn the steam deck OLED is simply not compatible and the fault lies in Valve, their priority's should not get in the way of what they promised us before we bought their product.
Point is, it IS compatible with Windows. it just lacks a few drivers. Some PC's doesn't even come with bluetooth, you have to buy a bluetooth adapter and attach it.
This doesn't mean it doesn't suck that they haven't released drivers for the OLED yet, but the Deck isn't advertised as a Windows handheld, it's just compatible.
