Steam Deck

Steam Deck

What is with the Shader Cache size?
The Shader Cache size on Steam Deck is really ridiculous.
I have so many examples.

January 2024: I use to have a game named Assassins Creed Origins added as a Non-Steam game, The Cache size was at 1.2 Gigabytes after 20 hours of play
I bought it on Steam and its Shader Size is 300 Megabytes

Feburary 2024: A game named Riddle Joker had a catastrophe with its Shader Cache. It starting out at 200 Megabytes, averaging about 900 Megabytes later, months later it jumping up to 2 Gigabytes via a download and now its 4 Gigabytes.

oh yeah. and one time Riddle Joker’s Shader Cache size jumped up to 26 Gigabytes randomly, it bricked my Steam Deck due to there being no available disk space left. I had to use a Recovery Medium in order to delete the Cache to make it boot again

For Various other titles the Shader Cache is insane. for S___r M___o O_____y Storage Cleaner reports 2 Gigabytes of Shader Cache storage
For Native Linux Games its strange because if i boot them via their Executable in desktop mode it wont make a Shader Cache and therefore wont stutter

Just hoping Shader Cache size is fixed, some time ago its Sizes were heavily reduced but its not enough because i am still running low on Disk Space from all the Shader Caches. some don’t make sense like Linux Executables because running them directly from their executables don’t generate cache

not sure if its a bug of steam client, but something like that has happened a few times. im not sure, but maybe updating the client, and then the games after cleaning the cache could help?

in pc with linux i also experienced a few times same thing with a few games, and sometimes after updating and cleaning, and rebuilding the cache, the issue was temporarily fixed.
