Steam Deck

Is the OLED worth it?
I have an LCD model and was wondering if I should upgrade to an OLED model.
Do you think it's worth the investment?

No. They both play the same games at the same settings

I just bought the LCD steam deck for the sale what do you think of it? Like do you feel like a better screen would really make all the difference with the experience? I had a switch then upgraded to the OLED and yeah I enjoy the screen but ♥♥♥♥ games played the same nothing felt different other than the colors just popped.

You are factually wrong though. A 68% srgb color gamut is one of the worst possible display you can have. It has a strong blue tint, whitepoint is around 8500K, which is just awful. Taking a look at the respons times also looks quite bad and it's far behind the oled. Nothing looks better in the LCD screen.

I strongly believe the OLED is absolutely worth it over the LCD model. Not that the LCD model is bad, but the OLED Steam Deck is much more than just a screen upgrade. It's a total overhaul of the internals. Bigger battery, more efficient APU, better touchpads with stronger force feedback, faster sleep/resume, more resilient to drops, better feeling d-pad, faster refresh at 90 hz, HDR support, more responsive touch screen, faster wifi and more reliable bluetooth, cooler and quieter operation, faster charging thanks to improved battery chemistry, and it's even lighter. You'll also get a slight performance bump thanks to the die shrunk APU and faster RAM than the LCD model.

The OLED is better in every way to the LCD. The LCD is a good device. The OLED is just better. Valve took all the heartaches from the LCD and addressed them in the OLED. Obviously, there is a different screen, but there is also more battery life. It can be almost 2x the battery life in situations. They also address the repairability of the Deck. Some components were not isolated well which required large areas to replaced for small fixes.

I have both. The screen has better color saturation. That doesn't mean LCD "screens" in general are bad, but the OLED is crisper with less bezel.

If you cannot afford a OLED, the LCD is a good buy right now. If money is not an option, the OLED is just a better device.

I did. I don't know all the stats & percentages, what made me the happiest was the amount of storage I could get. It also didn't hurt that my son insisted on paying for my old Steam Deck that I was just gonna give him.

Stuff you don't notice unless you look it up and have someone tell you.

So it doesn't make an actual difference.

You have HDR and 90FPS as well as the OLED Screen. To me personally yes it was worth it but ofc that's just me. You might feel differently.

P.S.

I won, I got two awards!

I didn't give you one of those Jesters but you're the first person I've seen who thinks an LCD screen looks better than an OLED.

Sorry I left school when I was 18 I'm 46 now and I thought this was a Steam Deck discussion? who are you my English Teacher all of a sudden? not having a go but I don't like internet Grammar Nazis that much. I find them condescending more than anything.

The only fool here is you for completely derailing this discussion. Incidentally you're the first person on here to make such a fuss over a non existent typo on my about section too.

I think you're embarrassed here otherwise you wouldn't be deleting each of your replies to me because I'm certainly not embarrassed, like AT ALL.

Condescending Prick.

I have the original and the OLED. The OLED is such an improvement in my opinion that I've basically assigned the original to Dock duty. I've got an 8TB Western Digital Black drive hooked up to the Dock, slowly filling up (very slowly) with my backlog, which is extensive, and growing.

The OLED is great for handheld use. I've liked OLED screens since the glory days of the PS Vita, and the Stream Deck OLED screen improves upon that. It's a beautiful screen of a nice size for handheld gaming.
