Repair rootfs partition(s) without factory reset or recovery image?

I can't install any OS/client updates because my Deck keeps trying to use a borked rootfs partition, no thanks to a botched update. Is there a way to fix my software without a factory reset or mountable recovery media that I sorely lack?

did you try the " Reinstall Steam OS- This will reinstall SteamOS on the Steam Deck, while attempting to preserve your games and personal content." option of the recovery image?

If that fails, how familiar are you with linux?

Due to my then-BTRFS filesystem, had no choice but to do a full re-image back to the default EXT4 structure.
