Steam Deck

Useless to me
None of the games I play have the slightest bit of configuration done and are not supported - setup and configuration is required to do ANY simple task. Absolutely NOT a plug and play device with the number of caveats, exceptions and teeny tiny number of supported games *that I'm interested in (this seems to have triggered some folk.) Least intuitive thing I've ever touched.

Edit: while this is a rant- I very specifically took the time to point out this is MY experience, for ME- ,"Useless to ME" not, "Useless"

Ideally this would serve as a word of warning to anyone who like me did not do due diligence in research ahead of time. Unless you're SURE you can achieve what you want- keep researching.

I equate buying a Steam Deck in order to play Destiny 2, Call of Duty, Fortnite, etc to buying a Super Nintendo to play Sonic 2.

If your potential enjoyment of a handheld gaming PC hinges specifically upon your ability to play these, and a few other incompatible games, you're really better off getting a Windows device. Thankfully there are plenty to choose from these days.

There are like 15000 supported games at this point, what ones are you having issues with?

Yep. Steam Deck have a lifetime worth of games already. I do not know what the OP is talking about. I am playing hifi rush and the only configuring I did was downclock my deck for better battery life.
Pretty much plug and play

steam deck is a PC with all that implies. You have to go into it expecting some level of fiddling to be required, because its pc gaming. Maybe youd be happier returning it and getting a nintendo switch or something.

I'm going to venture a guess and say OP never owned a deck.

Since he only posted a few hours ago, give the dude some time to reply what games he's having probs with, so that someone here can assist. Let's not try to come off as PCMR.

Every game I've tried 'just works' with very rare exceptions being Lethal Company needing a wineprefix tweak to get mods working

The VERY FIRST GAME I played was God of War when the Deck first came out

What games are you having an issue with, there should be help for it at the very least https://www.protondb.com/

If you're only playing games without any kind of controller support, you're gonna have to do some configuration in Steam Input - but in many of these cases you should be fine with just selecting the WASD+Mouse template.

It’s a PC, not a Console

It's absolutely a plug a play device, as long as you only stick to verified and to a lesser degree "playable" status games.

The fact that you can get a lot of unsupported games working and that you can run other software and non steam games on it through a little bit of tweaking doesn't mean that it negates the default experience.

If you want to tinker you can, but it's not needed.

What you should have done before purchase is check this handy steam provided tool to check your library compatibility.

100% agreed. The deck is neither intuitive nor capable of doing the task people buy it for: Playing games. Lots of unsupported games, bugs, too many workarounds the user has to waste their time with, and bugs, bugs, bugs.

Weird how a majority of owners don't really have problems playing games on it then.

Don't even need to stick to verified or playable.

A lot of games have community configurations that you can use.

What does that even mean? The entire point of a PC is that it's flexible in terms of how you can use it, and the Steam Deck certainly is - as opposed to locked-down consoles that will barely let you change settings in games.
