Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Steam Deck won´t start when i´m near my wifi with a seperate login site
My wifi at home has a seperate login site, meaning i have to connect to the wifi just like to a regular wifi, then log into my account on a website in order to fully connect to the internet.
My problem is now, that the steam deck does not start (stuck in steam login screen) when i´m at home. I think the problem is, that it is connected to the wifi and tries to go online and log into my steam account, but because the second login on the website is not done there is no actual connection to the internet. And since i cannot open a browser when i´m in the log in screen, i cannot log into my wifi account, resulting in an infinite steam login screen.

My current work around is that i set up a mobile hotspot on my phone with the same ssid and password as my home wifi. Then the steam deck connects to my "fake" wifi. After that i can turn off the mobile hotspot and since the steam deck is past the steam log in screen i can access the browser and log into the wifi account.

I live in a multi appartement house where the wifi is managed like in a hotel and i dont have access to anything. I just have the wifi password and my personal account to go online.

Does anyone know if there is a proper way of getting the steam deck to start in this situation or if there is a way to set a timer on how long it should take to log into the steam account at start up?

I would suggest a few things : As a tech support specialist I suggest you refer to your WiFi as "uses a captive portal" . please use the phrase "captive portal" . Two ; open a support ticket with your isp ( your wifi provider but call them your isp) , then send steam support the ISP provided ticket number and notes.
Oh and if your ISP refuses to open a ticket, open a steam deck ticket, then contact your apartment management as let them know the isp will not open a ticket for you . Remember : you have paid (in one way or another) to use the internet and Steam deck is not some weird out of way product no one has heard of.

I suspect that There may be a problem here with Steam Deck Captive portal handling that is inconsistent among isps and/or steam deck's Linux implementation. I know that I could not get this running at Denny's , but it works on Xfinity WIFI, and a few medical facilities . LAter it started to run at Denny's . who knows?
