I was able to fix it by factory resetting my Steam Deck, but that should be a last resort. I don't have many custom things on my Deck (really just DeckyLoader and a few plugins like a screen recorder and HowLongToBeat). This might not be the ideal solution for everyone, especially if you have a bunch of things like EmuDeck set up with ROMs and whatnot.
If you're wondering how to factory reset (as a last resort), though, follow these steps (and make sure you back up any local saves first):
1) Turn on your Steam Deck.
2) Press "Steam" button on your Deck
3) Navigate to "Settings"
4) Select "System" from the "Settings" menu
5) Scroll down to the option that says "Reset to factory state"
6) Click on "Factory Reset"
7) When it asks "Are you sure...", click on the option that says "Factory Reset"
This does not erase data from your SD card. Your SD card games will still be there when you boot up your Steam Deck.
god, for real?? i can get to desktop mode, but it asks for a sudo password, which i don't have an hence, cannot reset
This solution helped for a while. After resetting to factory settings, the error returned again after a while.
Do not have decky loader
1) I have disabled developer mode in the system
2) I have disabled night mode in the display settings
It seems to me that it was the second one that fixed it
