using steam deck as monitor for console gaming?
so I can't connect an xbox one to my computer monitor as it doesn't have an hdmi port, is it possible to jerry rig it up this way instead? having trouble finding the appropriate cords/adapter locally, I could order online I suppose if using these won't work:

oled steam deck
official docking station
hdmi cord
displayport cord

am I silly for trying this? :captainclown:

how about you order online an adapter for your real monitor?

You can kinda-sorta do it with a huge-ass detour: you need a capture "card", so a capture USB device with HDMI input and Linux support. Then you'd need to set up your Deck to capture video from that device by running capture software.

I've no idea how much those things are, you very much should check whether another monitor (or an adapter for the existing one) would end up cheaper & easier.

Just stream locally from xbox to Deck.

I have chiaki4deck installed my Deck. It is for Playstation 4 / 5 devices.
There should be similar open source software for xbox also.

Also you can stream an xbox one to a windows PC with the xbox app, and play that way
however since it is a windows APP and not a .exe you basically need to install windows on the steam deck to do it this way.
Back in the day I used my xbox'1s hdmi INPUT with an hdmi splitter (to remove hdcp protection) to stream my PS3 on my pc in the other room. LOL
