Charging battery health.
Hello, I've heard that if you charge phones from 20%-80% it's best for battery life. Are there some tips for Steam Deck Oled battery life? And thanks for all the "you are gonna need to replace battery anyways!" All universe is going to die eventually but for now I'm asking how can I take care of Steam Deck Oled battery better! Thanks for help :)

i never let mines go lower than 30%.
had my 512gb since a day before they annoucned the OLED model .. my battery Health is still at 100% with this being my 2nd Steam deck. id plug in at 30%

my first one the battery health Went down too 86% ina span of 3 months, i would charge it when it got too 5% or something on that one , the 1st never did as good as my 2nd one once i stuck to my 30% rule i noticed my battery health nvr dropped once as of today. idk if its just me but i took notice of it.

Doing 100-40% cycles is worse for the battery than 85-25% cycles based on Figure 6 here: https://batteryuniversity.com/article/bu-808-how-to-prolong-lithium-based-batteries

The actual answer is to simply not care because it's stupid, a battery is a consumable that you will have to replace sooner or later.

How can you write that I shouldn't care? Literally everything is wearing off. And faster if you don't use it correctly. If it makes significant difference for the battery how you charge it there is reason to do that. If for example difference was negligible then sure but you can deteriorate batteries pretty fast if you abuse them. But thanks for info about that %.

The correct use of a battery is to discharge it when you need it and charge it back up when you can. It doesn't matter if the device will become obsolete before the battery dies, and because you can easily buy an original replacement, it doesn't matter even if you do degrade it before you stop using the deck.

Never unplug my deck and after 2 years the battery health is 91%

But replacement isn't that cheap. Unless you can prove me wrong together with shipping costs to my country it will be like 150 dollars so I'd rather do that once per 4 years not every 2 lol. And yea you are right to use it as I need but again often it doesn't make much difference if I charge to 85 or 100% so if it helps battery I'd rather do that when I can ;p I had for example one smartphone for more than 5 years and its battery was decent till the end because I took care for it.

Why'd you even buy one? You can get Mini PCs for the same price that're far more powerful..

Also, you should use "PowerTools", a DeckyLoader plug-in. It allows you to cap your charge rate from 10%-90%. You can set your charger to "Idle", drawing straight from the power source, and keeping your battery healthy by not using it at all. I'd recommend setting it to 50% and playing with the charger on "Idle"

Maybe the person enjoys playing away from TV's or desks. Most houses today have outlets everywhere so playing while plugged in doesn't still mean "you should have bought a PC". It just means they prefer to be in a comfortable place to play.

I'm very similar. Most places in my house where I use my Deck, there is power near by. I do have a desktop PC and a large TV. I prefer to use neither of those for gaming.

I play laying down in my bed. You can’t do that with a pc, no matter where you place the monitor. Next to my bed is the steam deck, lenovo legion go, retroid pocket 5, retroid pocket mini, and a Odin portal.

Depending on my mood I have choices. Lately I’ve been playing a lot of android games and emulation on the android handhelds as they are extremely power efficient
