External gpu?
Will it support an eGpu? I'm highly looking forward to it, if it does.

It does not have a Thunderbolt port. And, through some guesswork, I assume that no M.2 slot with PCIe either. So no.

Just curious what the scenario is that you want this for?

Not to come across as one of those -> **"I dont need this, so I dont think anyone in the world should either"**, but (^.^) you can already handily stream to your phone/tablet, so the heavy lifting is done elsewhere.

External GPU allows you basically upgrade the GPU of a laptop or something that traditionally you cant upgrade.

This topic is about whether the steam deck can use a external GPU, you replied with a question and something that was moot to the discussion. I answered the question.

No, you really, really didnt.

As much fun as Im sure doing this back and forth all day would be, Im just going to leave you with this example on the off-chance it sinks in how wrong you are:

If you go to rent a vehicle, and the person behind the desk asks what you plan to use the vehicle for. Just know, that turning and pointing to the vehicle in the lot and "explaining" to them what a vehicle is, is NOT actually answering the question. Also, bonus content, they ****ing know what a vehicle is

Bye ^^/

For me personally thunderbolt would allow me to use the Steam Deck to completly replace my current pc with it and would potentially allow me to play VR on it. Basically having a high end gaming solution at home, while having a handheld device or with wireless keyboard and mouse a laptop on the go, covering all my gaming needs.

I had the same idea... Personnally, I think it would be nice if the official Steam deck docking station included some form of eGPU for gaming on my TV, in 1080p or 4k. It would make it an awesome Steam Machine. APU on the go, eGPU on the big screen.

Unfortunately, I don't know if Valve can do something with the included USB-C port of the Steam Deck (custom solution maybe?). Usually eGPU requires Thunderbolt USB-C.

There are external TB Controller that could be used, but they are expensive.
https://eu.mouser.com/new/intel/intel-thunderbolt-controllers/

13€ just for the Chip.

It also has a TDP around 2W.

for a new version or Revision they could add it as a feature but that would not be in a 400USD model.
