2 Monitors for Steamdeck?
Hey guys, I just got a monitor from a buddy of mine that went to go on and upgrade his, I thought to just use it as a second monitor for my steamdeck I just picked up.

However when I tried to put it in, I realized that my Jsaux docking station only has enough room for 1 HDMI port. And looked online and could not find a way in which I can go about connecting my new monitor. Anyone have any ideas here that wont make it so I have to buy a new docking station cause the Jsaux one does what I need it to do (minus running 2 monitors)

Thanks in advance everyone!!!

Edit for more details pertaining to my stuff:

Here's the amazon link for the dock im using:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B7HVZNMB?starsLeft=1&ref_=cm_sw_r_cso_sms_apin_dp_SVMTFR01T616M28HWC4Q

Heres the link to the first monitor:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CGVY3YYB?starsLeft=1&ref_=cm_sw_r_cso_sms_apin_dp_P9669PWBJKZ81B288J6G

The second monitor I have no idea since its like some years old but I do indeed have a screenshot of port inputs in the back.

While I'm sure someone will show you a way to rig it, it's probably not going to run well that way. A dock with only one monitor out isn't much of a dock tbh.

Idk if jsaux has a DP port, but for the official dock which does have DP, I bought a cable that has HDMI on one end and DP on the other end for my other monitor. Try to look up reviews for any cables you see like this, because the first one I bought could only go up to... can't remember, but some ridiculously small resolution like 800x600.

The only way to get one output into two monitors is a y-cable or a hub.
Since you wont be able to specify settings for those monitors, they would show you exactly the same image, hence it is the exact same signal.

So yes, most likely it would work.
Whatever you intend to use it for, I doubt its this, tho.

If the dock has display port, then the OP can try display port daisy chaining. HDMI devices tend to only care about themselves so the tradegroup does not care about these usecases

That is IF the screens got a thru/output socket, if Iam not wrong.
Also Iam not sure how easy it would be to configure that via the deck, hence I never used it.

Yea. You are right. Not all monitors can displayport daisy chain. Daisy chain monitors tend to be business monitors.

The standard you are referring to is Displayport Multi Stream Transport (MST).

Since the OP didn't provide the model number of which Jsaux USB-C dock they are using we have no way to know what specifications it supports. The Steam Deck does support DP MST over USB-C which is how the official Steam Deck Dock implements the HDMI and Displayport on the dock. There will be some limitations in regards to resolution and refresh rates for the connected displays depending on how many displays are being connected.

@OP, you should probably provide the relevant details for the things you are asking for help with if you actually want help that isn't just pure speculation. Jsaux makes a plethora of different USB-C and Thunderbolt docks with a wide range of features.

I meant daily chain monitors because the OP doesn't want to buy a new dock.

I was looking into HDMI Splitters but realized they just would show the same image on each screen. I searched online for daily chain monitors and found "Daisy Chaining Monitors" which not going to lie, I've never heard of that technique for making a monitor work with the other to not split the image but to actually have a separate screen to work on.

Have you ever "daisy chained" a monitor? Would it even work with the steam deck?

Also apologies on the late reply and heres some more context for anyone that asked.

It does say "RGB IN" which I'm unsure what that means as compared to a DB port.

Also just a heads up, I'm sure the most of you guys are way more qualified in this stuff then I am. I'm not the biggest tech wiz but I've set up a dual monitor set in the past on windows and on an actual PC rig for a friend of mine but never tried for the steamdeck and I really dont want to think that I screwed myself over by buying the wrong docking station.

It's the reason I'm asking for help here and providing so much context cause I'm lost on what to do and have been playing with it all night trying to work out how to go about making it work as a dual monitor setup.

I actually never needed it because I buy docks with multiple display port outputs.

HDMI splitters may not work with your AOC monitor. I believe HDMI splitter have HDCP cracks within them because HDMI signals have DRM and does not like being touched at all.

You probably have to buy a new dock to be honest.

I really didn't want to buy a new dock. But I'll entertain this idea. Which dock would you suggest cause as I'm looking through them all and non have as many USB connecting areas as the one I currently have within the same price range?

I am like the worst person to give product advice.

I only buy either first party accessories or these Linux stores.
