Mapping back button to hold left joystick forward.
I am not having any luck getting the L4 button mapped to where it holds the left joystick up. I have been able to map R4 to hold down my right trigger and R5 to release it, but when I use the same settings "Left stick up", "Start press" and toggle in the Start Press Settings, it isn't working. I have tried Long Press, even Analog, and nothing seems to be working. Ideally I would like L4 to hold the left joystick forward and then have it released either when you press it again, or if you press L5, whichever I can get working. At the moment nothing seems to be working at all, but if I change it to left joystick right, I see my character occasionally turn to the right, but it's not holding the stick, just seems like it's pressing it like a button and not consistently.

Anyone have any ideas how to make this work?

Regular press with toggle on.

Other button press types can be buggy with toggles.

That's not working. It's not holding the Left Stick Up. I guess the stick is one of those buggy types.

What game is this? There are some games that have SIAPI support that require you to use game actions instead of the gamepad commands.

If it's not a SIAPI game, then are you pushing the joystick up while you press L4? If so, this can cause you to stop moving when you release the stick.

Or are you using a mode shift on the left stick? This can also cause problems.

If none of those apply, then it should work with regular press toggle on. If it doesn't and you've configured it properly, then you are experiencing a software bug or a hardware malfunction.

It's GTA V. And I am not holding the stick up when I test it out. I am able to program the L4 to hold the W key, but that introduces a weird combo where you are using a joystick and keyboard at the same time, and hitting the A button to run, just turns on some recording option. Not sure what a mode shift on the left stick is, but all of my controls are default to what the Steam Deck sets up for GTA V. Thanks for the info. It sounds like I might just be out of luck.

Okay, so I looked into it and it's bugged. The joystick commands aren't working when bound to buttons.

There is a workaround for this problem.

1. Add an action layer.
2. On layer, add an always on command for W.
3. On default set, add a command on L4 to apply layer.
4. On layer, add a command on L4 to remove layer.
5. On layer, change A button to Shift.
6. On layer, change X button to Space.

Thanks. I will be giving this a try. Any clue where I can report this bug?
