Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Steamdeck and GeForce now + some other questions !
Hi !

I’d like to buy a SD and take a dip into the PC gaming. I’m a console player but SD allows me to play the way a I play, not seated on a desk !

But I have some questions to ask :

- Forgive me for this but, SD launched 2 years ago I guess. Is it worth buying now or should I wait SD2?
- Is there a big community? Is there frequent update but Steam? My idea is, do you think it updating like a real console or is it just a gadget ?
- Is it multiplayer friendly? Can I used discord and play multi games like a regular PC, talking with friends
- Can I use GeForce now on SD? Is it easy tonight download and use it? And can I dock my SD to my TV to use it as a mini PC and run GFN on my TV? In dock mode, can we use keyboard + mouse ?
- I can afford to buy the OLED but it worth the extra price?

Thx a lot and sorry for my English !

1. Valve isn't a phone company, they won't release a new model just because the year rolled over. They said themselves there won't be any SD2 until there's an actual leap in performance (which you can wait for a while for).
2. It's a PC running Steam, not a console. It is a technical gadget, obviously, just like your current PC, your phone, your Playdate...
3. Yes, you can, because it is a PC.
4. Yes. GFN can be used from a browser, you can use browsers on the Deck.

The deck community is cross pollinated with Linux.

For better or worse, the whole system is inspectable except certain internal hardware states....

You have to run geforce now thru chrome. I am not sure whether reports about working well with your TV because TV issues are a case by case basis.

Yes in most cases. Once you factor in steam sales, Steam deck should have one of the lowest total cost of ownership among gaming devices. Steam sales changes the math like crazy. To give you an idea, switch have a bigger total cost of ownership than the steam deck.

Seriously. List your games. Many game studio separate console and PC because mouse+keyboard is the superior input for many games.

In FPS, mouse+keyboard reign supreme. Microsoft studied and realize they had to give up joining the two player bases.

I don’t want to play a single fps on Steamdeck, or solo like cyberpunk but I want it for indies mainly !
