This is what I'm afraid of, that the new device will have the same problem. Maybe it depends on the revision and the new revisions solved the problem? By the way, I have two Steam controllers and one of them has the same problem on the stick. This sound really irritates me, like sand crunching or like a joint crunching when injured.
Sorry, this might be off topic but your mindset about there being worse issues helps me think the same. My Deck works and plays perfectly fine but there are a few quirks that have made me wonder if mine is defective and deserves an RMA. These quirks are SUPER tiny though, and I’ve never been able to find a definitive answer if they spell trouble for my device’s future. Out of curiosity, have you noticed that the left haptics feel slightly different than the right? The left feels and sounds just a hair louder than the right, and I’ve attributed this to the desktop layout making it a scroll wheel and the game mode layout making it a D-pad. I haven’t been super concerned about it, but it does tend to float in the back of mind, alongside another concern of a faint fan buzz/click that goes off when the fan starts spinning on the updated fan controls. My device is brand new, too.
