How to button map keyboard underscore?

I’m making a macro and need to have ”_” mapped, however it only lets me use “-“. I suspect this is also a problem for 1/!, 2/@, etc… how do you fix this? Do you have to have it hold shift while pressing this key too, and if so how would you do this in? Start press and start end?
