OLED burn-in confirmed 750-1500 hrs. Be careful!
Steam Deck OLED shows slight burn-in at 1,500 hours, or 750 hours at max HDR brightness
The Nintendo Switch OLED took 3,600 hours to show burn-in

This means if you use it 3 hrs a day, within 500 days you can reach 1500 hours.
Since the warranty is only a year, and 500 days goes far past that, youre gonna end up with a burn-in just after the warranty runs out.

That's only if you have the same image with the same HDR brightness for that 1500 hours (which no one will do).

From the article:

"In testing the Steam Deck OLED, the aim was to simulate a worst-case scenario in conditions that most users will likely never face."

yeah but it's less than half of nintendo switch so that's pretty bad, and with normal usage, then maybe in 3 years it could start to show some burn in. gotta make sure to not use it at full brightness and also hopefully it's not too much hassle to replace the screen. and is there an option to turn off screen while downloading?
or just get steam deck 2 and sell the oled.
hopefully steam deck 2 has a nice color LCD screen option too for those of us who like to collect devices to add to our permanent collection.
oled's just aren't made to be kept as a collectable.

Not comparable. Nintendo only allow brightness up to 350 nits. Steam deck can go up to 1k nits.

Do you play for real, or do you put up a worst-case scenario of a static, high-contrast image?

When im downloading something sometimes i leave it on at home all day for likr 8 hrs while im at work. Sometimes the download hasnt finished when i return home. So i guess thats what im mostly afraid of.

The OLED's screen is really easy to replace. Easier than the LCD. You don't even need to take off the back to do it.

Realistically though, by the time anyone has had it long enough to experience burn in, the Steam Deck 2 will probably already be out.

That's a low-contrast image that doesn't need high brightness.

Those videos are meant to calm the fears of normal people (anyone who is not actively abusing the Deck will have no issues).

Not intended for those with general anxiety disorder, OCD, and a touch of paranoia.

Thanks for the heads up.

false, false and FALSE

Nobody uses their deck under the circumstances this testing was done (static image/text) for weeks at a time at max brightness.
