Desktop mode firefox poor youtube performance
Hi,

I'd like to know, if anyone else has issues with playing youtube videos on firefox in desktop mode. Usually when a video plays in full-hd, sound plays normally without issues, the video:
- randomly freezes for a couple of seconds when viewing
- randomly freezes for a couple of seconds switching to the video from another tab
- outrights stops playing with some error with a hash value
- really slowly starts playback after seeking either to some other part of the video, or even when going forward/back 10 seconds.

None of these issues were present roughly 1 month ago and nothing on my hardware/internet side of things changed in the meantime. The only thing changing was the steamos versions and app updates.

Currently running the latest steamos preview build 3.5.14 and latest firefox 122.0.1

Turn off hardware acceleration. See whether turning off fixes it.

That didn't stop the video freezes, but it definitely solved overall poor framerate performance. So apparently hardware acceleration turned on performs a lot worse than hardware acceleration on in firefox and also in chromium

Yea. For many hardware, the video decoding hardware is actually slower than CPU decode. You can write better algorithms in CPU decode than hw decode. HW decode is only better in terms of power consumption or moving processing load off the CPU.

I am trying to think what other issue can cause video freezes.
