UK Shipping Timeline for Steam Deck
Hey y’all,

I recently purchased a Steam Deck from Valve. I started this discussion to keep track of the events leading up to it both for others looking to purchase a Steam Deck as well as for me to refer back to should there be any complications (spoiler: there have been MANY). If you have any insight or advice, I'd appreciate the help.

(Times during the day are GMT, an hour behind The Netherlands.)

31/01/2024 (Wednesday)
5:00pm - Ordered and purchased Steam Deck directly from Valve. Status was “processed payment”.

01/02/2024 (Thursday)
- Status updated to “packaged items”.

02/02/2024 (Friday)
3:30pm - Status updated to “shipped” and provided me with a tracking number with GLS.
9:30pm - Parcel arrived at GLS centre in Netherlands.
9:40pm - Parcel said to have left the parcel centre in Netherlands. Parcel status with GLS said to be "In Transit" to the final parcel centre (I assume this means to the UK).

04/02/2024 (Sunday)
4:55pm - My parcel seems to have been removed from the GLS system. When I click the link in Steam to track it, it says there are no results. I'm hoping this just means my parcel has been carried over to another party like Evri (although I do not have any emails regarding a changeover?).
5:55pm - I've contacted GLS regarding the loss of tracking, requesting more information or an additional tracking number in case it has been handed to Evri.
6:10pm - No reply from GLS, but I've regained my tracking info. Shipping details show no updates or carrier changes, still "In Transit".

05/02/2024 (Monday)
1:30pm - The same tracking info loss error occurred. Still no response from GLS regarding the original error.
3:05pm - I've contacted Steam Support regarding the error, still unable to access tracking.
5:30pm - Still unable to track my parcel. I have contacted GLS for more information. I'd understand if there were a fault with the IT system, but I just have no idea about what's going on.
10:00pm - I’ve regained access to the tracking information. GLS needs to sort their IT system out.

(Note: intermittent access to tracking has been regular ever since.)

06/02/2024 (Tuesday)
12:45am - Steam Support replied explaining the basics. Package is In Transit and should arrive within 3-5 business days. If there are any complications or it takes longer than expected then I can contact them.

08/02/2024 (Thursday)
12:40am - GLS updated the tracking info saying "the parcel has reached the parcel center.". This update was also made yesterday afternoon, so has it gone through 2 parcel centers? Not entirely sure where it is as the status is still "In Transit", but at least there's some activity with it.
8:35am - GLS updated the tracking info saying "The parcel is expected to be delivered during the day.". Status is now "In Delivery" and due to be delivered between 1pm and 2pm according to ParcelForce.

(Note: The only emails I've received regarding shipping have been the initial email from Valve, and 2 emails on the day of delivery with a shipping timeframe. These emails were sent to my spam folder so keep a look out there.)

1:22pm - ParcelForce "attempted" delivery, but nobody even came to the door! No card was even left to explain what to do. Unbelievable.
2:15pm - I raised a complaint with ParcelForce explaining what happened.

09/02/2024 (Friday)
9:05am - ParcelForce is delivering my parcel again. This time it is expected between 4:30pm and 5:30pm.
9:10am - ParcelForce responded to my complaint apologising for what happened. They said the issue has been reported to managers and policies will be reiterated to drivers.
4:10pm - THEY DID IT AGAIN. THEY DIDN'T DELIVER THE PARCEL. I AM ABSOLUTELY LIVID. WHAT THE HELL!?
10:00pm - I contacted Steam Support earlier and they responded with the usual "It takes 3-5 business days", "All parcels go through customs", basically explaining the shipping process. They said to reply if the delivery has exceeded 3-5 business days (which it has).
around 11pm - Parcel returned to the depot for redelivery on Monday (3rd times the charm, fingers crossed)

10/02/2024 (Saturday)
around 10am - I replied to Steam Support explaining that I am already aware of the shipping process as I have been tracking the parcel since purchase. It has been 8 business days since purchase, 6 since shipped. I attached screenshots of the ParcelForce shipping timeline as well as my experience with them. I'm awaiting a response, though I may not get anything until Monday...

12/02/2024 (Monday)
12:30 - I finally have my Steam Deck! I've learned that ParcelForce is a terrible delivery service and that I am lucky to have received my parcel.

SUMMARY
- It took about 9 business days from purchase, 7 from shipping to receive my Steam Deck.
- GLS tracking is terrible and ParcelForce delivery is terrible.

Royal Mail / Parcel Force are really good.
The fact that they are quick is just a bonus.

Don’t forget to thank your postie, they are a person too.

Hey did you have any joy? I ordered mine the day after you and it still states “in transit” on GLS website with no update from Parcel Force.
