Update Storage problem
I got a 64GB model with a 512GB SD card, and I am having issues with updates from the games on my SD card taking up all the space on the SteamDeck's native storage. Is there a way make it so that the updates are downloaded on the SD card instead of the native storage?

You want Cryoutilities[github.com].
It applies several adjustments that improve performance. There's an option to clear out compatdata and shadercache for uninstalled games. Biggest of all for you is it will sync shadercache and compatdata to the same location a game is installed, in your case the SD card.

Are you talking about game updates or shader cache? If its shader cache, then no. Moving shader cache onto the sd card may have performance problems. Shader cache is GPU code and would need to be loaded as fast as you can.

I'm talking about the updates. I have BeamNG, Halo infinite and a few smaller games. When I go to storage it says that most of it is from updates and a few minor others.

I used cyro in the past and it ended up with my Steamdeck having issues with its screen getting REALLY dark and I had to get a new one. I know there are some linux apps that can help with clearing space but I just want to move all the space being taken up by updates over the SD card.

That what CryoUtilities will do:

Storage Manager
* Sync shadercache and compatdata to the same location the game is installed
* Delete shadercache and compatdata for whichever games you select
* Delete the shadercache and compatdata for all uninstalled games with a single click

It's that first bullet point that will do what you are seeking.

is there another way to do it without cryo? Since it messed up my last steamdeck, I'm opt to not use it.

Just say no to everything except that part.

I have three Steam Decks. Two 64 GB LCDs (1 Q3 2022 and 1 Q1 2023 upgraded to 1 TB) and one 512 GB OLED (upgraded to 2 TB). Each one has Cryoutilities installed, and each one is going strong.

Your screen going dark has nothing to do with what Cryoutilities does. What you experienced was unrelated.

I fixed it, went into desktop mode, files, home, steam, steamapps, common/compdata, and moved all the files in there to primary (my SD card)
