LCD vs OLED eye strain and other questions
I'm thinking about buying a Steam Deck but I'm not sure which version I should get, or whether I should get one at all.

I'm primarily concerned about eye strain. When I bought my first OLED phone, the Pixel 6a, I couldn't use it for more than an hour without it hurting my eyes. I could use my other phones for hours without issue. So how is the OLED in terms of eye strain?

I have no problem buying the LCD version. I plan on playing digital tabletops, CCGs, board games, and old emulators. So I don't need the fancier tech. However, I had to return my Switch because the screen was too small. I couldn't see what was going on in games like Super Smash because everything was too small. Should the 7" LCD be ok? It's quite bigger than the Switch so hopefully I wouldn't run into the same issue. Would the extra .4" on the OLED even be worth it?

Lastly, I would like the SD to replace my aging tablet. How is it for watching Youtube, Netflix, net browsing, etc in Desktop mode? Ideally I would like to do all of that on the SD instead of my phone to save my eyes and for a better viewing experience.

Which version should I get, if any? Huge thanks to anyone that can help me out.

The lcd version has a terrible screen. Very bad colors, and low refresh rate. Definitely avoid it. If you don't want to get the OLED then get the rog ally or legion go.

The Z1 Extreme is overkill for me, so it would be between the 64GB SD and base Z1. I assume the Z1 would be good enough to run games like Blood Bowl 3? And the color on the SD LCD is bad enough to warrant paying the extra money for the Ally? With the type of games I'm playing, I'm not too worried about the refresh rate.

The LCD screen is fine and cheaper too. I bought both and gave the LCD to a friend. The OLED screens don't bother me to much, but if the phone was too much for you, then you definitely do not want the OLED deck.

If you have eye issues, then get a dock too (I recommend the Ivoler dock over the official one). Then you can connect it to a TV and use it like an actual desktop computer too. The friend that I gave the deck to actually uses the deck + ivoler dock as his main computer and no longer even uses his old laptop.

Due to the screen, I returned my steam deck OLED after 3 days of use. I could not look at it for more than 10 minutes at a time.
