Mura/graininess issues with the non LE versions of the Steam Deck OLED.
Just like the title says, me along with many other users are experiencing mura/grain on instances where the OLED panel displays near black colors (5/5/5 - 15/15/15). When displaying 'true' black the OLED panel functions as intended. The grain is also visible in the steam menus. This grain or mura is very distracting and unfortunately led me to return the OLED considering the main advantage for the refresh was the screen itself.

I only post this to raise awareness on the issue the myself and other users are facing with the non LE models of the OLED. If you need to view examples of what this looks like to confirm if your panel is showing signs of mura, simply search for "steam deck oled mura" and there are plenty of reddit posts showing this.

Anyone else experiencing the same thing?

Can confirm it happens on my deck as well (1TB version). I reached out to steam support and they said they are aware of it and that there's a software fix coming that should address most issues, albeit there is no ETA.

I would have waited with my purchase had I know this was going on. I'm a bit surprised this isn't being talked about a bit more.

Yep Samsung sued BOE, I guess Samsung were afraid BOE is better quality than theirs.

I have had now both oled LE with 3 dead pixels and I replaced it with a screen from ifixit which is a Samsung panel and I can say that the BOE panel from the LE really has no graininess and also the blacks are pure blacks. The Samsung panel although no dead pixels doesn’t always show true blacks. The dead pixels on my LE screen did disturb me a lot, so I guess I will wait for the fix from Valve. I hope they provide us with an option to increase the contrast of the screen as in games when I do increase the contrast, the screen problem seems to disappear completely. I tried this already in Ori and the blind forest and it looks really good on the Samsung panel.

I gave up on mine and sent it back quite a while ago. I was hoping for some public acknowledgement of the issue and a plan to address it but seems like I was hoping for too much.

Nonetheless, it was fun while it lasted, hopefully they learn from this and avoid the issue in the next deck they release.

I would believe it will be pretty difficult. Cheap and avoiding mura will not mix. Mura seems similar to IPS glow in LCD panels. The issue is a manufacturing defect.
