Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Unable to run a full system update
I've been trying to update my system and install things manually using the konsole but I keep getting the error "error: failed to synchronize all databases (unable to lock database)". I've tried using chatgpt to help but nothing it has suggested has actually helped. I've tried restarting my steam deck but the issue is still persisting. Any suggestions?

Steam OS uses an immutable system.

To simplify, you cannot change the system, meaning that you don't need to update the system.
When Valve release an update your system will get updated.

What you can update from time to time are Flatpaks (applications you install through the Discovery Store).
Just open the Discovery Store in the Desktop mode and it will look for Flatpak updates.

You can mutate whatever you want like any other linux distro with root, SteamOS has some preventions to don't let noobs to damage the system by accident.

To set a password user with root access on konsole write:
passwd
then:
sudo steamos-readonly disable
