At this time what's the best way to package SteamOS extensions?
Setting up VNC lately made me want to package up this whole setup so I don't have to do it again. But other than Decky Loader I don't know what the best way would be to package up modifications to SteamOS.

Any thoughts on the best way to do this sort of thing at the moment?

I haven't yet found it in the docs but is it possible to get flatpak to do stuff like replace the sshd.conf, systemctl enable sshd.service, etc and otherwise check/fix configuration stuff at boot?

I don't think there is anything you can do that will allow you to change the Valve owned pieces (today) that won't get overwritten on updates.

Another question is: where is the main discussion forum for people working on steam deck "hacks" (extensions or whatever additional features)?

You are better off looking at Reddit or the Gaming on Linux forum.

Decky or Flatpak:

https://docs.flatpak.org/en/latest/first-build.html

You can always just create some scripts and put them in a public repo but the other two options would be more "official".

Yea i'm basically looking for the most "supported" way to do things, though I'm not sure if there is a supported way for "root" system changes to persist after an os upgrade. (i just switched to the preview channel, partly to see what would get blown away by the upgrade, and even Decky was removed it seems.)

Right now this is because I don't want to keep running a script out of the user directory all the time to reinstall things, but eventually i want to share packages of some sort. (When I looked I didn't really find a good clean ssh/VNC install/setup package.)

I haven't yet found it in the docs but is it possible to get flatpak to do stuff like replace the sshd.conf, systemctl enable sshd.service, etc and otherwise check/fix configuration stuff at boot?
