It was clearly worth it to you to purchase at the price you paid when you got it, and it isn't any less functional than before.
Mine is so glitchy because I had to replace the screen, bc it broke, BUT HAD TO DREMMIL into the back due to STRIPPED / OVERITGHTENED SCREWS FROM THE FACTORY...
I've purchased three Steam Decks. Two LCDs and one OLED. I've upgraded the SSDs in all three, and each time went perfectly. The first LCD had screws that seemed to be a little snug, but as long as you use the right size screwdriver it's fine. I used a Phillips #0 from a little iFixIt kit.
It wasn't Valve's fault you broke your screen. It wasn't Valve's fault that you stripped a screw in your hastiness. Valve didn't make an OLED Deck to spite you, and they don't owe you anything. You got what you paid for, and now you have FOMO. This is all a you problem.
I was happy with my purchase
And I am still happy with my purchase
I’d even go to say, I’d prefer the LED model over the OLED model, just for sharpness for instance.
But hey ho, Valve will probably end up doing a deck sub..
A Couple hundred in, they could just upgrade you to the new silicon each year whilst growing games at you.
Valves strat is long term.
See how it plays out.
Wait for the Steam Deck 2, OLED version isn't even worth the upgrade if you have the LCD version.
GBA, GBA SP1, GBA Micro, & GBA SP2...
DS, DS Lite, DSi, & DSi XL...
3DS & 3DS XL...
Deck LCD & Deck OLED...
Each of these handhelds ran the same libraries as their variants in each set.
Heard all of this before, repeatedly, since handhelds started... no reason to get in a twist over a refresh. It's just part of buying any kind of tech, especially in computers/gaming.
When the OLED became an option as I also have trouble with my vision I was fairly happy that by taking the time to be sure a Steam Deck was a worthwhile purchase that a better screen for me was on offer
Eventually a better device will be available probably for a similar price and the price of the one I have will drop Just like every console , handheld , computer, phone , tablet ,,, you get the idea
I have never got a refund on any and the only time I felt truly like it should have happened was when a sports camera dropped its price ad made a better battery the usual 2 weeks later given I got it during what tended to be their lowest price and the battery was a failure point
I don't get to demand anything It is just bad for brand loyalty and a bit irritating given I do expect larger companies to act on things that could cause this
Still for the most part I don't buy things I won't get a lot of use out of so there isn't really any way to feel as if I have been ripped off as typically other than that one item the number of hours of use I have had out of something render it very worthwhile
I am a frugal person so I do take the time to break down the hours I used the device helps make it clear that I got good value Consoles and handhelds being things I did upgrade a fair bit but when II did the math it was clear they were all worth it
It's a good thing when a product improves and we have choices about when and if we upgrade but you probably logged enough hours on your Steam Deck for it to have been a good purchase, I'd say if you don't have a reason to get the initial new one that you might not regret waiting although I love the screen enough to with my computer came with that type,
Progress does not rip you off as you benefit along the way With games being both a competitive and lucrative industry better for the same price or even less might happen soon
I don't see the downside here
Also, you can get a pack of replacement screws from iFixit as well for $15. And if you stripped the screw because you used the wrong driver you don't need to dremel the thing to remove the screw. There is a nifty thing called screw extractors; which iFixit also sells a precision set for $25 to remove a stripped screw.
There, fixed it for you.
