Docking with external LGTV Black Screen - Tried everything!!
Setup:

Steam Deck Oled
Steam Official Deck
LG OLED 65" C9PUA

First off: The docking to my lgtv works perfectly in desktop mode. No issues at all. The second I go to gaming mode, I get no signal on my TV...I can hear the sound effects when I move the switch controls, but no visual signal...or rather, it gets a black screen signal (if no signal, my tv alerts me, but it doesn't....just a black screen) Sometimes I would get the actual real signal for 2 seconds before it turns black again.

I've tried everything already...so if I'm missing something, please let me know:

- Tried tweaking display in desktop mode...various resolutions and refresh rates...I even tried to bring it down to 1920x1080 @ 60hz from 4k @ 120hz and it doesn't help

- Tried the new external monitor safe mode via settings in gaming mode (this actually causes a no signal screen on my tv)

- Tried various hacks of unplugging the power to the dock, replugging, going into desktop mode first, plug usb-c in, then change to gaming mode. Same thing...nothing works.

- Tried buying a new high quality HDMI cable that for sure supports the TV, but still no go

- Tried turning on/off true deep colors inside of lgtv options, tried turning off some HDMI options via lgtv options...no go

At this point, I'm convinced it's not me, and it's something wrong with how the Oled steam deck responds to my tv. I did not have this issue when I owned the original lcd steam deck (that was a simple plug and play), but I cannot for the life of me, get the oled to work!

Going crazy here, please help!

Might try the official Dock section:

There are reports and some solutions that may be similar or work for your use case.

On the TV go into your settings and change the compatibility mode for the HDMI port that you have the dock connected to.

The issue is the HDMI Forum Vendor Specific InfoFrame (HF-VSIF) is being embedded in the EDID which breaks the Steam Decks ability to understand the supported resolution and refresh rates.

Hey man, this is a few months later and I'm having the same issue. It's driving me mental because it used to work. Temperamental but it did. But now, nothing at all, which makes me believe it's a Steam Deck update issue. But it works fine on my tiny Samsung TV, just not my main LG one.

Did you have any joy with this?

Works fine in desktop mode after a little bit of adjusting settings. But nothing in gaming mode, black screen, sometimes I hear an audio pop, but other than that no video or audio. My HDMI splitter also freezes, but even if I take this out of the equation, the same thing happens.

JSAUX dock updated to the latest firmware also. I've tried disabling HDMI-CEC, I actually have a little thing that goes on the end of the HDMI to strip that signal, have tried with and without this but no dice. I've also tried turning off the LG Deed Colour or wtf that's called.

Hey guys, I got some good news - I had this problem too, staying at an AirBNB that had LG TVs installed. Had the same problem you guys had. Fortunately, I had run into a similar issue with a different device type on Samsung professional signage displays in the past, in my line of work (AV) and I remembered that the solution we got working there was to put these ultra cheap amazon-sold 1x2 HDMI splitters in line between the device and the TV. So I grabbed one out of my work bag and plugged it in there, and now the LG TV works just fine with the steam dock like it should.

The one you want on amazon is called "OREI HDMI Splitter 1 in 2 Out - 1x2 HDMI Duplicator Display Mirror Only - Not for Multi Monitors 1080P, 4K @ 30Hz (One Input To Two Outputs) - USB Cable Included - 1 Source to 2 Identical Displays" and it should run you $13. I suggest keeping it with the dock so it will work on just about any TV. It is powered by a USB cable that you can plug either into the dock or the TV (if the TV has a USB port next to the HDMI ports, which they usually do).
