Steam Deck

Steam Deck

usb c to usb a adapter not reading thumb drive when plugged into steam deck
I just got my steam deck and was excited to try emulation so I watched a couple videos and handled the process just fine until in emudeck i was supposed to insert my usb to copy my roms of games i own. But when i plugged in my usb c to usb a adapter and thumb drive it would not show the thumb drive was inserted. It does not show in discs and devices either. I took to the internet but could not find any solutions to this specific problem. Does any body know why my deck is not recognizing that an adapter and thumb drive is plugged in? I havent tried a usb c thumbdrive so i dont know if just that works but so many youtube videos show people plugging thumb sticks into adapters and it working just fine. The deck charges just fine so i dont think the port is damage or defective. Also, the thumb drive works just fine in my windows pc. I tried multiple adapters and multiple usb drives on deck and none worked. Does anybody have a solution or know what im doing wrong. If i am missing something obvious please go easy on me. I am a steam deck noob.

File system Format on the Drive may be the problem.

Make sure its compatible.

Also you using a Dock or directly to the Deck?

Going directly to the deck. Does that meaning changing it from fat32?

FAT32 should mount - the only problem you have with FAT32 is if your storage exceeds a certain size (IE: 1TB)

As to further diagnoses - can the steam deck SEE the drive mounted in system settings?
When I mounted the MicroSD it saw it but couldn't use it until it was formatted.

Are you trying this in Desktop Mode?
Seems there may be extra options there.

@kage goomba It does not see the drive mounted. I am mostly messing around in desk top mode but being a windows user i dont know all the ins and outs of linux.

The Drive should mount regardless - so somethings up.
Its a fully supported file format for pretty much every platform out there generally speaking.
