Steam Deck

Anybody else got dead pixels?
I have 2 that are not even in the same area. I am glad I splurged for the LE Deck so they could use the non Samsung panels in them. Sucks that now the LE I bought is going to have to be sent back.

Look for discolored pixels in Firefox. You should scan your screen up close and try to find any discolored, black, magenta, green, red, or blue pixels.

So apparently, Steam Support is advising people to keep playing their Steam Deck OLED with dead/stuck pixels for 30 more days before sending in the deck for an RMA, probably in an effort to see if the dead pixels will fix themselves or if consumers will forget about the dead pixels. If you return it for a cash refund, you won't be able to purchase the LE again... Wonderful.

My one stuck pixel has corrected itself and not through screen pixel tests. I just kept playing the day I received it, YMMV. Here’s to hoping it doesn’t reappear again as there is a chance of it happening.

Otherwise, when it was there I could barely see it unless I was extremely close to the screen, or solid colored backgrounds from menus like the install/play button in game pages where it looked like a speck of dust.

The LE is sold out and no longer in production with BoE. The only way would be to mass produce it again with Samsung panels, which have their own issues.

Yep, heard there are tons of issues with black blurring/smear, green tint, and other issues which sound worse than a pixel on the side I can ignore as well as potentially fix (I have 3 stuck pixels when I tested on day one, now I only have 2, and none of them show up on a black screen) so idk man. I won't be buying Deckard or Deck 2 at launch because of the QC issues with both BOE and Samsung in this release.

Side note: BOE panel does look beautiful even if they are a clone of SS.

I’ve seen mura screens irl and they offend me more than a stuck/dead pixel ever will.

I've heard that the PSVR2 and the Quest 3 have mura screen issues as well. Must be the supplier and makes me worried for the next Index that Valve is developing.

PSVR2 was worse imho vs Q3. My Q3 didn’t suffer this but have family who had it, was ugly especially in VR.

That’s all good info. I think my two pixels are totally dead, but maybe I just need to log some more hours and see what happens.

I still haven’t heard back from Steam support in over 2 days, so I gotta assume they got slammed.

To be completely honest, the screen I have is really nice and it doesn’t have that grainy or tinted look. I think I would notice that more than just two dead pixels. Otherwise, the build quality, buttons, pads, speakers, and connectivity is great.

If you ever had a spec of dirt or hair under a screen protector, it's almost as easy to block it out mentally. I have a LG 1440p IPS monitor with a magenta pixel similar to my OLED and it doesn't bother me after using it for 6 months. I even considered RMAing the monitor when I first got it. It's also possible for them to fix themselves if stuck after months or years of use.

It almost feels like Valve didn't really test this thing as much as we might have been lead to believe. Between the Samsung screens looking "grainy" and the BOE screens looking like they have more pixel issues it leads me to think they wanted this out for before Christmas. They are not getting my LE until the 5th according to the tracking and then it takes 2-3 days for them to send the replacement so it will be around the middle of DEC before I get my replacement. Very annoying. And there is no guarantee it won't have screen issues too.

I lucked out and got an LE unit that isn't suffering from dead pixels. Unfortunately it does have a sticky X button. Hoping that issue resolves itself after wear from normal use.

Yes, 1 dead red subpixel in the upper-right corner of my LE.
Haruspex 30. Nov. 2023 um 21:54
Still no dead pixels but once in a while I'll see a spec of dust reflecting off the light. It startles me a bit because it almost looks like a dead pixel, but you can't brush dead pixels off the screen.

I was grabbing some photos tonight and I discovered another two dead pixels for a total of four. I must be going blind because I could have sworn those were not there yesterday.

This happened to me too. I had one dead on first startup and then played it for a while. Then I noticed another that was not there before that. Seeing as how that was a rate of 1 dead pixel per hour I RMAed it immediately. My deck made it to the RMA warehouse on Tuesday and instead of sending a replacement they gave me a refund.

damn seems like they can't keep up with stock. Glad you got a refund, id rather not play panel lottery again with mura or more dead pixels and just stick with the LE since it has no other issues. kinda sucks ass how they botched this for both panels, with how widespread the issue seems to be. Valve QC big thumbs down, refrain from their launch products and consider yourself lucky if you have a unit with absolutely 0 flaws.
