Steam-purchased Rockstar Games - unable to type credentials
Hi there

I’ve just received my OLED Steam Deck, and it seems like a wonderful piece of kit.

Only thing is, I’ve got some Steam-purchased Rockstar games (Max Payne 3, GTA V), and I can’t run them. I’ve grasped that first time around I need to fire the games up in Desktop Mode in order to authenticate, but I can’t log into the Rockstar Games Launcher, because something weird happens with the controls as soon as the login screen appears.

The touchpads stop working, as does the Steam key (so no Steam + X to summon the virtual keyboard). The only way to control the mouse cursor at that point is the left analog stick, and left clicks map to the X button. I’ve tried attaching a keyboard via USB, but the text fields don’t take input from it. I’ve tried specifying latest / experimental Proton, but it doesn’t make a difference.

Does anybody know what’s happening here, or some way forward?

Press the start button, that switches input modes. After pressing it, you should be able to use normal Steam controls.

I just gave that a try, and it doesn't seem to have any effect here.

So I managed to get the keyboard up at the same time as the Rockstar Launcher, but the Launcher doesn't receive any input from it. I typed out my email address, but the characters don't appear in the text field.

Solved this.

I needed to connect a BT keyboard to log in.
