It doesn't really. It does diminish the anti-glare but it doesn't wholly negate it. I have a tempered glass dbrand screen shield on my Steam Deck LCD 512GB launch model and side-by-side with a Steam Deck LCD 256GB launch model it is still noticeably better. Indirect light still gets diffused by the etched cover glass; but the smooth surface on the screen shield is more reflective and you will see more reflections than without a screen shield.
@OP it doesn't mess with image quality though.
No, it's a purposefully "matte" screen.
