Steam Deck
Steam Deck OLED 512 can't connect to wifi
Which is weird, since LCD Deck connected with no issues from the beginning. I was only able to pass initial setup because I hand type-C ethernet dongle lying around. Trying to connect in desktop mode returns error 'no secrets were provided'

Router limited up to 80Mhz (one step before 160Mhz) in the 5 Ghz band, It last longer but connection finally fell down. Until any news I keep my configuration in 2,4 ghz that works perfectly.

My router is a Huawei AICubeB900. It's using vodaphone 5g Internet.

I looked on Huawei's site and couldn't find anything in regards to the Ai Cube B900; I did see several eBay listings and such for that model name but couldn't find any manuals or documentation on it. It seems like it is a OEM provided Vodafone router and I also couldn't find it listed anywhere on Vodafone's site; however, much of their site is pestering you to login to your account in order to do anything. So you might be able to locate the manual for it while logged into your account.

From the product listings on eBay however it does not appear to be a WiFi 6 router so this may be another pointer toward the Steam Deck OLED's WiFi module being your issue.

I've got an evolution digital router and a couple plume pods running homepass, they're provided by my household's ISP. This will not be the first time they've caused issues, but I appreciate you all being willing to help til valve gives us a more permanent solution

Do you have the specific model of the Evolution Digital router? Is it the EVO6700AP?
yup, that's the one!
I have same issue, so frustrating
Interestingly, I think it might be possible that if the Steam Deck OLED tries detecting other 160 MHz networks when it is unable to connect to a known one, it starts messing up again. I had that happen to me today when I resumed my Steam Deck in a completely new area and it had no known networks around it. When I tried connecting to my phone hotspot, which it had previously been connected to, it couldn’t connect. Now that I am back home, it started working again. I am guessing that out of the 10+ networks it detected, one had to be a wifi 6 network with the 160 MHz channel active.
Just chiming in to say I'm one of you.. Because I have another steam deck that works perfectly fine I wanted to rule out my network. But reading the comments it must be a factor, I have mesh, I have used 160 (but disabled as part of my testing, but maybe only after the OLED had gotten into a bad state..).

It's so frustrating how inconsistent it is, half the time it just gives up and doesn't show any networks at all. Another fun issue I've found with it is that if you're not in offline mode, it seems to wake itself up randomly (sometimes after minutes of sleeping... )

Will try suggestions here.. really hoping I don't have a faulty deck, glad to see there's others so it may get a software fix.

I got the steam deck oled le yesterday and I’m feeling like a beta tester. I didn’t go with the first gen steam deck because it seemed kind of meh. I have a WiFi 6 router nighthawk rax40; and all my other devices have no problem connecting to it. Ps5, switch’s, phones, pc’s and multiple tvs. This oled LE can’t connect to 5g and I’ve severely crippled my 2.4ghz to the lowest bandwidth to get a connection with the oled steam deck and it is downloading at very slow speeds. I spent a couple hours downloading a steam deck green-check game ff12 zodiac age and it white screens. I’ve put in a ticket with valve and I’m considering asking for a return, I’m not impressed with this experience the screen looks nice but I paid $700.

Thanks for taking a look for me. Do you know if I can just change the router and keep the sim card?
I have a day one 512gb lcd deck and the new oled LE deck. The lcd deck has no issues at all, so not a wifi or router problem on my end. The oled wouldn't connect, but would with my hotspot.

Some how I just got it to connect to my 5ghz band. I could swap between to the two bands but it takes forever to switch and sometimes will never reconnect.

The fix !!!!!!!!!!!!

Pick the 2.4 or 5ghz wifi ( I did the 5ghz ) and enter the password. It won't connect and will say re-enter the password ( DON'T DO THAT) just back out and it will save the password.

Now restart steam using the restart below change account not the restart in the same section as sleep and shutdown. When it boots back up it will take a fat minute if this doesn't work after about 1 minute you can do two things. Use the same restart as before or try the other wifi band and repeat.

I'm not happy with how I had to get this to work after trying countless things but this is working. I can switch to desktop mode and back to game mode with it still being connected. Doesn't seem to work after a power off and on so you have to power on and restart steam again. But if it magical disconnects at any point for me half the time it will reconnect or I have to restart steam.

This may not work for you but is working for me. I hope this helps you.

Did you try deactivating the 160mhz feature of your router? Also, are there other people’s wifi networks in your area? If turning off the 160 MHz feature doesn’t work, I have the thought that a network existing in range of the Steam deck OLED with that feature on can cause the wifi issues as well. Don’t even have to connect to it. I have not tested this hypothesis though.

The event that makes me think this is I was on a road trip using my wifi hotspot yesterday and got to my destination. I put the OLED to sleep and went off to do something. Of course it would have lost connection to my phone hotspot at that time and when I went back to it, I noticed it was having troubles connecting back to my hotspot then noticed like 10+ other networks in the area. I would not be surprised if at least one of those was a 5ghz 160mhz network. What solidifies my thought on this is when I got back home (which has no other 5ghz networks at it than mine) it immediately connected right back up with my 5ghz network that I deactivated the 160mhz on.
I got a response from steam support about this issue

"Hi there,

We're aware of the 5GHz connection issues through the Steam Deck and the Steam Deck team is working on a fix for this issue. We're shipping frequent updates and fully expect Steam Deck's compatibility to grow steadily over time.

We're sorry we're not able to address this specific issue immediately.

Just jumping in to say I have a similar issue.

I can get intermittent connections to my 2.4 network, but after trying 5ghz (separate SSID) I fail to be able to connect to anything...

Will try a factory reset and sticking to 2.4 only, but as geforce now is an intended use case that doesn't seem totally viable.

Have tried WiFi power management settings and even reimaging SteamOS.
Count me in on the growing list of people with this problem. Seems my wi-fi only wants to work on first connection after a factory reset and until it goes to sleep. After that I have to change my home network's wifi settings and keep resetting my Steam Deck, crossing my fingers that it will work long enough to download a game. Valve please fix!

What wifi router are you using?

The RAX40 router doesn’t have a toggle on/off switch for 160mhz from what I can tell. It’s a very very early model for WiFi 6 I’ve had it since it released. I have updated the nighthawk’s firmware to the newest last year and I’ve googled to see if I’m missing something but I think it’s a combination of settings that are changed inside of setup>wireless settings you have to turn off AX features and also change the mode to a slower mbps and also change the channel of the SSID. I have changed it between all modes/channels with AX on and off and the steam deck will not connect to it. I think the router also does some weird stuff with 2.4ghz also because it is making the band wider than 2.4ghz is normally so I have to put the router in the lowest mbps mode to even be able to connect my steam deck to it and it is slow AF. There is a coxwifi in my area that is faster lol.
