Can’t Setup Steam Deck OLED - initial update errors

Hi everyone
I’ve gifted myself a steam deck oled. I’ve tried setting it up multiple times but have been unsuccessful.
During the initial setup screen which requires an update, I’m able to associate my wifi but the download and installation fails every time. I tried force rebooting multiple times and I can’t find a way to get to the normal desktop to try there.

Has anyone else experienced this?

There have been several threads regarding WiFi connectivity issues with some network setups.

As a work around if you can login and change these settings in your WiFi router/AP

Change encryption type to WPA2 rather than WPA2/WPA3 transition mode (mixed mode)
Try disabling the 160MHz channel width for the 5GHz network
Try splitting the SSIDs so your 2.4GHz network has a different SSID than your 5GHz network.

The wifi is managed by my apartment complex. I’ll try to use my hotspot or go somewhere else for the update I guess

You mentioned download and installation both. Can you tell if it's failing to download or failing on the installation specifically?

If it's the download, you can try the steps above and also try using your phone as a Hotspot. If it's failing during the install, I would start a support ticket with Valve but you can also try reinstalling the OS via the Recovery Image.

The download appears to complete every time. The installation is always what fails

I've the same problem. Installing always goes down to 1 second remaining and just sits there infinitely

I had to connect via phones hotspot to do it. Not ideal!

WiFi works on the deck now but can take up to 10 minutes to connect. Whereas on the phone hotspot its instant

My steam deck been giving me a Update Error, I have alot of memory also. I looked up utube to see what I can do to fix the problem I'm having with the steam deck. I did the sudo steamos-reboot. --reboot-other and my password it still doing the same thing. Can anyone Help
