The whole point of the etch screen is that the anti-glare layer is super thin. The gains in reduce reflections easily makes up the decrease in pop. Screen protector will never be as good as the etch screen from Valve.

The one you can afford.
I had the non-etched screen on the LCD Deck. I bought the etched screen for the OLED. For me, if there is the same device offered with an etched or non-etched screens, I'm picked the etched screen. Love it that much.
Difference is what you get out of the box (double storage+ slim case).
Etched (or matte) screens are always the way to go IMO. Glossy screens do give a bit more clarity, but with matte screens you really don't need to be concerned at all with glare and reflections.
If you do VFX work or something and can control your lighting situation a glossy screen might be better, but on a handheld where lighting conditions can easily and often change having a matte screen just gives you a sense of security that you don't need to worry or be annoyed by reflections at all.
