Steam Deck

Broken steam deck giveaway at game awards
Can we just talk about what a disaster this giveaway was?

The site was down for the majority of the show, and when it finally came back online, people had to wait in queue for up to 4 hours to enter the giveaway, at which time it was too late to enter.

The giveaway was also supposed to be open to all regions where steam decks are available, however the site would only accept american zip codes, which was required to enter.

Oh and the Lenovo Legion Go giveaway were under maintenance for the whole stream duration. I don't need one, but did save the gleam page to check periodically.

It makes you wonder if gleam was even notified about the giveaways, because they clearly weren't prepared to handle that much traffic.

Valve allowed the giveaway but did not host the giveaway. Geoff Keighley and Gleam were responsible for it.

Yeah it was a disaster. Went to enter and it was "down for maintenance" majority of the time. Then when I did try again later in the show, I also got in a 4 hour wait queue so couldn't enter.

Why even have it if you don't prepare the website for the increased traffic?

Ask Geoff Keighley.

Because Valve didn't host the awards event or giveaway. Valve only announces their own news information in the blog bullhorn.

It was a fiasco last year as well.

Not nearly as bad as not being able to log into Steam to watch it.

That was a thing last year as well. I had that issue.

I had no issues with multiple accounts.

They lit up the bullhorn last year:

Because Valve hosted the giveaway themselves last year but not this year.

Just because you didn't doesn't mean others didn't. Your experience doesn't represent "everyone".

You guys would be screaming up the wall and down the other-side if steam hosted it anyway.

Always something to complain about with you folks.

I can't be too mad because if it wasn't as bad as it was I probably wouldn't have won one.
