Naw, I do not want them to design two different PCB or source two different memory modules. I want the deck to be the cheapest and maximize as much value as they can. One configuration is good enough.
No, and also, the internal layout has changed significantly. The new main board only has 2x memory modules instead of 4 on the LCD original. But these type of devices are always going to have soldered in memory, not SODIMM modules. There have been people who have managed to solder 8GB (64 Gigabit) memory modules onto the original Steam Deck and then alter the BIOS to get it to boot up and work properly with the increased memory.
4x 8GB modules on the original gets you the 32GB of ram that you’re looking for, but it’s effectively just a mod and who knows what the long term implications could be on performance/reliability. If you’re really interested in a handheld with 32GB of memory, you might want to look at products from Ayaneo or GPD, but be ready to pay through the nose to get one of their handhelds. The value of those products is unbelievably bad in terms of price to performance when compared to the Steam Deck or even Asus ROG Ally.

Thanks a lot for the detailed answer ! I go check the video for sure .

It's been one year minimum I want a handheld instead of gaming laptop because of portability and the'' less weight'', but you are right about gpd Aya neo (high prices for nearly zero customer service )
I think I'm stuck with gaming laptop then ,but yes steam has great price for performance

I understand why you want it though, especially if you will be using it for non-gaming tasks because I think 16GB is probably enough for 720/800p gaming. But it would be nice to have 24-32GB, so you could have 16-24GB of real system RAM + 8-16GB of VRAM for the iGPU. Gaming laptops are better value if you buy an entry level model, it's just annoying (to me) that all the 3050/3050ti laptops which are close in price to the deck are handicapped with 4GB of VRAM. I recommend trying to get one with 6GB at the absolute minimum if you play AAA games. I tried to play Alan Wake 2 on my 3050ti laptop and even at 720p + DLSS Quality, the textures just wouldn't load because even the lowest texture setting in that game can't scale down to fit inside of 4GB.

I finally won't buy any handheld because between my pc and my Android tablet ,I play more on my tablet than my pc so it will be irresponsible to buy a handheld I'll barely use ..

I will buy a steam deck LCD on ebay if it reach 200€ maximum for lite gaming and tinkering , i prefer to buy soldering tools for repairing which is a more clever choice lo'and
