Steam Deck OLED, glossy or premium anti-glare? Which colors pop best?

I know the original Steam Deck LCD had both as well, the colors imo seem to be better on the glossy version. I was wondering will this be similar to the OLED model, can we expect a certain better "pop" to the colors on the $549 version than the anti glare coating versions? I have seen this before on an IPS 27" monitor before too, glass versus matte, and the colors popped better on the glass variant of the same panel. So I am assuming the $549 version will technically have better clarity and pop based on my previous experience. Can anyone confirm this will be the case for the OLED models coming out soon?

Does the switch oled screen have anything on it? I don’t notice a crazy amount of glare and the colors look great.

Glossy screens can have an anti reflection coating, which block out brighter reflections efficiently, without "compromising" the clarity or colors, like non glare does. It's great to get the best out of both worlds.

Ahh, sorry I misread your post. For clarity you are specifically intending to mean a comparison between the Samsung OLED panel and the BOE OLED panel correct?

While it appears at first blush that the LE models are using BOE panels vs the regular models using Samsung panels; I don't think we have anything conclusive that is the case. I haven't had time to check my LE panel yet, however, it looks fine and I don't have any dead pixels as some others have noted (you included iirc). Would still be interesting to get a comparison between those panels with a colorimeter; like Taki did in that video.

I believe the Phawx purchased his own LE model and Valve sent him the 1TB regular model for his review so might be worth pinging him on Twitter/X to see if this would be something he could test out.

Not interested in dead pixels, want to see color comparisons, darks the lights etc.

It’s all good, would have thought these techfluencers would already be all over this type of comparison for the views. Maybe this post will spark “content” ideas for them. I can wait.

Also to add, LE are all BoE it’s the first oled rendition Valve made when they struck a deal with BoE hence sparking the Samsung lawsuit.

I'm for anti glare as it looks great on the OLED model. This conversation goes deep though, I'd rather not have the world reflect on the screen like a mirror. Plus it makes the Deck look cleaner...

that's why matt screen protectors exist and why phone manufacturers never opt for a matt screen but then again the pc gaming community is special :)

It's less necessary then on the glossy model if you have the etched anti glare glass.

and if you're gonna put a screen protector on it it needs to be a another type then the glossy compatible ones

it's easy really:

if you're never going to use the deck outside and only indoors: glossy wins

if you're gonna use outside in (partially) sun lit areas: etched wins

There is no wrong choice, in my opinion its not that much more and extra storage is always nice so I ended up going for the 1TB even tho I originally intended to get the 512G.
