Steam Deck
Steam Deck OLED, glossy or premium anti-glare? Which colors pop best?
I know the original Steam Deck LCD had both as well, the colors imo seem to be better on the glossy version. I was wondering will this be similar to the OLED model, can we expect a certain better "pop" to the colors on the $549 version than the anti glare coating versions? I have seen this before on an IPS 27" monitor before too, glass versus matte, and the colors popped better on the glass variant of the same panel. So I am assuming the $549 version will technically have better clarity and pop based on my previous experience. Can anyone confirm this will be the case for the OLED models coming out soon?

Etched is much better!
Was wondering if the etched screen is any more prone to scratching?

I’m from Q1 for 512 lcd and have zero scratches on the etch screen. My spouse who is rougher on his (same purchase time and model) has none. We both play in bed with a very curious cat who often peeks at our screens. YMMV.

Glossy screen all the way! Especially on OLED screens! Any anti-glare solution so far have been ruining the "black" advantage of oled screens making it look washed out in bright environment... Alot of reviews have confirmed this...
i have a glossy lcd deck and now the antiglare oled. the oled looks great… its bright, actually super bright when playing ori.

question; should a screen protector be used for the antiglare screen?

Haven't tried it, but I've seen some people ruined theirs, because it takes away the anti-glare effect since the glue closes the bumps from the etching and some stays behind even when you take the film off.

If you want anti-glare AND a screen protector, the glossy model with an anti-glare screen protector might be the better option.

Works fine. I have a dbrand glass screen protector on my Steam Deck LCD 512GB launch model. It does lessen the anti-glare some but it doesn't totally negate it. The etched coverglass still diffuses indirect light. But the glass screen protector is obviously more reflective than the anti-glare cover glass so you will see reflections a bit easier than without it.
Those who received their etched oled, did you all notice any bubbling on the screens?

I ask this because with the OG SD LCD when it first released, mine had a horrible bubble because the adhesive they used didn’t cure. So I had to for days massage the bubble till it finally settled and cured to the glass screen.

Here’s a sample thread of the issues with pics;

This issue was only on a small batch.
They fixed it fast.
Technically I fixed it fast myself because Valve wouldn’t help me with a solution, this is why I appreciate the community a ton.

Glad it’s not an issue this time around with the oleds because that bubble haunted me everyday.

Yeah took them time to recognize the issue but they ended doing some rma for some. But yeah it was a simple batch of screens
I went with glossy cuz like you I just play indoors anyway, you also just save money and can upgrade to 1 TB if you really need to but honestly it seems kinda hard to fill up to 1 TB with games you are actively playing.

It happened to my 3rd quarter deck. I simply asked support what they thought of it (sent pics) and they replied with an RMA ticket. New deck has been fine.

I play in my room most of the time, so reflections aren't an issue for me. So I guess I will go with glossy so I can get the extra clarity and pop.

Its only takes one bright light to make reflections annoying.
Do you not use a phone or a tablet or a tv?
