Steam Deck

Steam Deck

When will I be able to boot my steam deck offline
Look, I know, it’s been a year that I have my steam deck, but staying on power save mode just because my deck won’t boot in the train because the lack of WiFi is starting to get boring. It’s supposed to be a computer. Then let us use it like this and stop locking the boot of the device under the underlying « update check » page

I get that updates are mandatory and all, but I’m not in charge of when they get released so let me chooose when I’ll install them ! Three times now I take my SD for a trip and every time it has no other use that would have a block of concrete in my bag

Let us use the offline from the start ffs haven’t we payed enough money to get our games on the go ? It’s nice to update but right now update means useless device for me. So just give us the option to skip the update please

I think you might have a problem. Many people use their Deck offline without issues. Can you explain in a bit more detail what stops you from using it in offline mode?
They did say it was a mobile pc.
but its is not mobile in the slightest if what you are saying is correct.

perhaps a "spoofer" app could be used?
I don't know, but thanks for the heads up

I really did not know it was an always online online kind of gig..

wow, small print totally missed
I use my deck “offline” often without any connection to cellular, wifi, etc. And from a cold boot as well.
It isn't entirely true.. or at least not in my experience.

you can use the steam deck offline just fine if you set the games to update when launched and turn the steam deck to offline mode.

however:
If a game requires online activation/keys on launch, offline mode will not work.
cloud saves can be a pain
if a game has an update queued, this will not work (hence, update on launch setting)
if you are connected to the internet but in offline mode, you still get certain (ie system) updates.

While it is kind of a pain to deal w updates, offline mode still works, for now. :gordon:
I think you're having the same issue as me? Where every time the thing start up it looks for updates and gets stuck there until it connects to some internet connection?

I've never been able to find a fix for it, the best I can do is turn offline mode on before shutting it off and avoiding it turning off completely whenever possible.
