Steam Deck WIndows 10 Dual-Boot Vanished!!!
I recently set up a dual-boot on my deck using this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOCsMeKBGbo.

Then just last night as i shut down my deck from the windows desktop, my deck did some automatic update and now my boot option for windows has completely vanished. I've looked at some other discussions that have had a similair issue but their issue seems to be the SteamOS boot going missing not the windows.

I'm not particularly tech savvy and dont know if the solutions on those apply to this specific kind of SD card based Dual boot. If anyone could help (With very simplified instructions) i would really appreciate it!!

When steamos updates require a restart, if u reboot in windows they are not applied. But as soon as u boot into steamos, they do. That's what I've noticed, cause after every restart I'm thrown into windows, as the default boot target. Whenever I wanted to apply updates immediately, I did shutdown, not restart, so I would pick steamos in bios boot menu. Did u lose the microsd card in bios? Or are u using a bootloader in internal ssd? Haven't watched the video u refer to.

The WIn10 install is stored on my MicroSD card but it boots from my normal Steamdeck Bios Menu, but now the windows install is missing from the steamdeck boot Bios. I hope that answers the question because im not too sure what some of it means! sryyy

Have u booted into steamos? are u in latest update? If the answer is yes, then... good luck :D

Edit;
Check the thread of latest stable update in events subforum to see what is going on.

It's funny how People are supporting the whole go only Mobile Environment,
but refuse to give up the Computer Market to do so,

Now People are trying to buy a Steam Deck, & then MOD the Steam Deck
to allow them to run Steam the Free Way they always were able to do before?

Hello, MODDING Steam to use Windows 10, would be like having not bought
a Steam Deck at all... It's like going backwards from what you bought the
Steam Deck for...

At this point? Why not just buy a Computer or Build a Computer??

Installing windows on a pc isn't a mod or anything special. Also win10 on deck with full driver support would easily bury steamos. I've been using linux/bsd for over 20 years, but let's face reality; pretty much all games on steam do run on windows. That's all u need to know.

Can u see the microsd card in steamos? Maybe the problem is there? Some ppl have downgraded bios, I think there's a recent post about it, u could also try other channels, beta and preview. Sorry I can't be of more help, I'm not using the deck much lately due to the latest update. I want to play the new samurai showdown beta, which plays fine on steamos, but I just won't boot into steamos until a proper update is released and ppl stop reporting horror stories, like "my deck is dead" n such.

windows 10 with full support would be more versatile than steam OS, but steam OS would still run slightly smoother because it doesn't have the overhead that is windows running in the background. though I would absolutely love better windows support.

They are buying steam-deck for the hardware.. they want a hand-held gaming computer that is more portable than a laptop, and cheaper than an ROG ally ($399+$50 for a 1tb m.2) vs $599.

Personally I would go with the ally, for the driver support and hardware bumps alone.
The main things steam-deck has going for it is power efficiency, price, and steam OS.
The first 2 are obvious benefits, while the 3rd isnt so cut and dry especially for power users.

Well for a start it's a dual boot so i can have the portable arcade fun of the steamdeck while also having the perks of a windows desktop to play the few games i have unsupported on steamdeck!
My Deck was a birthday gift and, whilst being considerably cheaper than a gaming PC, runs all my games well and works as a great MIni desktop device. Whats with the hate?

When I'm in SteamOS gaming mode the top of my screen displays that there's an SD card insterted but I can't see it as a device in Steam Desktop mode:(

Hey there. I have the same problem atm and google for help.

Found your topic here and after some more topics in www I found this:

https://youtu.be/u20rGuY_luA?si=b0DiuG1Axyz5_8RR

Maybe it helps you.

I don’t have a stick atm to create it but I’ll take a look for a solution.

Best wishes!

sudo efibootmgr

Run that command to take a look.

Yea. I do not recommend dual booting. Valve has pretty touch the efi boot loader every other update. Kinda annoying to fix, but I can manager. I do not know about the average gamer.

I’m now having the same exact problem. One day I was installing games on my Windows 10 Steam Deck and then the next day I boot up my system but this time it went to SteamOS. So I then went to the boot manager just to find out that the Windows boot just vanished. It’s been days and I cannot find a fix so does anyone know how to fix this?
