Take off the tin foil hat. It's not. If something doesn't run on the Deck (or really SteamOS), you'll see it. The good curators also list what they are running the game with. For example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBIGxpXr7Oo
That game doesn't work on SteamOS. You can see in the comments he say's he's running it via Windows 10.
i thought you were talking about steam deck opinions on yt not benchmarks
I'm not talking about either. I'm talking about you doing research on the games you want to play to see if the Deck supports them.
The good is that the Deck can get really good battery life for an x86 handheld in certain games. If you like games like Etrian Odyssey or Disgaea, you can drop TDP more on the Deck and get more play time than on handhelds like the ROG Ally.
Performance at 15W is roughly the same between the Deck and the Ally, and 10W and below, the Deck pulls ahead.
The Deck also doesn't run Windows, it runs a version of Linux that's tailor made for a handheld. It's better in every way except game compatibility, Windows on a handheld is just a headache.
The ugly (and this applies to most handhelds in general) is that it's only got 1 USB port.
The Deck doesn't really have much against it that's unique to the Deck. Most cons are essentially true of most or all other handhelds.
If you chose the cheapest 64GB version, you will have to upgrade your storage.
You may also have to invest further money into a kickstand, peripheral devices, etc. The Legion go has everything included already. Not to mention the superior performance. You are going to run modern games in 30 fps 800p on the steam deck.
Again, not the best time to buy a deck now, when you have such innovations around the corner.
My guess is that the legion go can be the first viable handheld, that could provide a reasonable gaming experience. If you're budget is only $399 I suggest buying a used gaming laptop.
