All newer titles from MW19 going forward will not be Linux/SteamOS compatible for multiple reasons including their anti-cheat Ricochet.

It works fine in Windows.

Because Activision doesn't want you to, not really Valve's fault. The old call of duty games work though.

Activision's custom anti-cheat is at fault. The ball is in their court as of now.

Don't expect it running near the end of 2024, 2025... Some multiplayer games will not allow be to played on linux, due to security concerns.

Not really. Windows is not officially supported on the deck. Valve does not provide proper drivers, the wireless drivers are very bad, leading to severe connection problems in more recent cod games, like MW2.

So if I install windows on the deck as a dual boot I can run it then right?

You can install Windows, IIRC dual booting isn't viable right now though.

But then you're dealing with Windows on a handheld, which drags the experience down.

You can install Windows and you can dual boot. Dual booting isn't officially supported so it's a bit janky but does work. As mentioned above, Valve does not officially support Windows so you get what you get. If you go this route, I would recommend Windows 10 over Windows 11.

There are several videos and walkthroughs out there about it. I just grabbed one:

This is false. It significantly enhances the user experience.

The last Call of Duty isn't available entirely. The Zombie mode is unplayable because of huge freezes and then it crash every time after around 10mn. Having Windows 11 of course on it.
It's really a shame for such a big game. They should really find a solution for that.
The game tells you your drivers are not up to date btw.

Sad. You'd think they'd see this as an untapped market. Playing actual cod on the go, not the mobile version, but I bet you they'll tout it with the xbox handheld.

They don't want to support Linux for both the game and anti-cheat.

Probably so, but for what it's worth and as much as I love the steam deck, an Xbox handheld would sell a whole lot more. Sony really messed up with their streaming device, they could have been kings again like in the PSP days.

Why not have the anti cheat run on Linux? Not like cod isn’t filled to the brim with hackers.
