Blue ray portable player
Has anyone done this, purchases a small portable blueray player and just plugged it into their steamdeck and watched it in vlc?

I’ve seen some posts and videos saying they did this with a dvd player but no one specifies blue ray.

Thank you for the time if you reply I appreciate the help.

Blu-Rays are harder. They contain DRM, and there's no commercial Blu-Ray playing software for Linux right now.

You can check the Arch wiki[wiki.archlinux.org] for more information. Personally I think it's too much of a pain to make it worth it.

MakeMKV and MakeMKV plugin for VLC are available on flatpak. MakeMKV is free when used with a beta key found on MakeMKV official forum.

I appreciate all the info you’ll gave. Thank you. I’m currently doing this whole “cyberpunke Esque” thing to find ways to preserve things like privacy and media. Last thing I want is for there to be no way to watch blue rays so finding solutions with the minimalist set up I have, has been interesting.

the best way is to simply rip them and store the rips in your own server or PC. playing them can be a hassle on computers...

I mean what’s stopping someone from adding one. It’s still plug and play with those.

well yeah, you buy yourself a drive and rip every single disc so you wouldn't need a drive anymore. also lets you watch easily on the deck or your phone.

I use Leawo BD Player with a external BD drive connected to the Steam Deck. I installed it with Lutris.
