Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Game mode
I am going to buy red dead 2 and add it to steam as a non steam game and play it in game mode on my deck... does anyone know if I would get the benefits of playing in game mode even though it is a non steam game? The steam shader cache thing doesn't bother me because I know over time it will build itself..

yea, gamescope/fsr/battery saving options still work for non-steam games
Do you think performance would be the same as the steam version? I've noticed rdr 2 goes on sale on steam at least once a month and I'm getting impatient and my luck itll go on sale tomorrow lol

Should be identical. Mind you the Steam Version also launches through the Rockstar launcher anyway.
Any recommendations for rdr2 for performance? Not interested in cryoutilities I've heard mixed reviews I'm gonna put the fps cap to 40 fps...

I'd say it should be identical too. I have GTA 5 on Epic and I use to play that on Deck which also launches through the Rockstar launcher and the performance was good.
This might be a stupid question I'm new to pc gaming... but does playing on pc with lower settings effect all the little details that make rdr 2 so amazing like the npc variety and actions and the atmosphere or does it just reduce graphics quality which doesnt bother me... I've played on console before

I use Cryoutilities. It recommends changing VRAM in the BIOS to 4 GB. It actually gives a warning that doing this can decrease performance in a few games, RDR2 among them. Probably a good call not to use it if that's the game you want to play, though you can use the Cryoutilities tweaks without the VRAM increase.

There are plenty of settings guides for RDR2 on the Deck out there.
Yeah I changed it to 4vram the other day but changed it back to 1vram

You can get 40 fps on rdr2 with graphical settings a bit better than console. I recomend setting FSR to quality as it doesn't degrade image quality (I think the TAA built in FSR2 is actually less blurry than the in game TAA) and gives you extra headroom. It is also an easy setting to lower if you ever want to plug the deck to a 1080p monitor or tv and do a relaxed play through. You can also get smooth 30 fps with higher settings. Find something you like and don't worry about it basically.
Do I adjust fsr in the actual game settings or deck settings? Can the deck really give better graphics for rdr2 than on consoles? 😱😱

For future purchases, if you want to play on the Steam Deck, it's best to buy the game from Steam. I don't know about the Rockstar Launcher, but some games can be difficult to get working when it's a non-Steam game.

FSR in game. The deck's FSR upscallers is to change internal resolution to match display resolution. Something you will have time to learn as you use it :)

In terms of graphical settings, yes. The Deck will have settings set higher than the PS4 version of the game.
